Netflix App: 360 vs. PS3

Do any of you have both systems and find that you prefer using Netflix on one over the other? The actual functionality of moving around in the app is basically the same imho so I don't have a preference there. But I've noticed lately that my Netflix quality has sucked for some reason. I thought maybe something was going on with the local Comcast network and figured it would fix itself eventually.

Anyway, last night we were watching Breaking Bad on the 360 and I decided to stop and try it on the PS3. The quality was perfect (well, as perfect as you can get on Netflix). Why would there be a difference? This used to work just fine on the 360 and now both of my 360s, one wired and one wireless, both suck and the wired PS3 is great.

Have any of you with the 360 app noticed a degradation in quality lately? This could still be a local issue due to something in my profile I suppose but just thought I would ask.

The PS3 has 1080p and 5.1 sound so I prefer using my PS3 for Netflix as the 360 won't do 1080p but if something isn't in full HD, I never notice a difference between the two.

I own both and oddly enough i prefer Netflix on the PS3 due to the PS3 supporting 1080p and surround and the 360 doesn't support it but in terms of picture quality there's no notable difference

I have not noticed a degradation on either. The Xbox 360 is wired and the PS3 is on wifi

I haven't used Netflix on 360 since my console RRoD'd over a year ago, but I remember it would make the fan rev up like a jet engine whenever I used it. Does Netflix on the 360 still require a Gold membership? That was kind of annoying.

Since then I started using the PS3 Netflix ap more. The colors do seem darker and richer, but that could just be because of improvements in the ap itself.

One thing is for sure - the PS3 netflix ap is way better that the included Netflix ap on my LG LS 5700. There's really no comparison in color quality.

Not really trying to turn it into that type of discussion. Mainly curious about the (perceived?) visual quality of each. I'm not paying for gold to use Netflix so don't even think of it that way.

i've never used the netflix app, but the amazon prime app on ps3 vs 360, the ps3 one blows the 360 one out of the water. both quality wise and usability wise.

I was running Netflix on the 360 the other day (on WiFi) and the resolution was atrocious. I swapped the HDMI cable over to the PS3 (still WiFi) and everything was crystal clear. Normally I use the PS3 anyway, but the HDMI cable for it had broken and I had been using the 360 for HBO GO, so I figured the Netflix app would run fine. Anyway, there's no contest. With literally every other thing being equal, the 360 was struggling to output a pixelated 480i signal and the PS3 managed full HD. But at least with the 360 I'm paying an extra $50 a month for broken functionality. That's awesome.

I always preferred the PS3 for streaming over my 360. Quieter in my setting and the quality seems to be better. I also found that the UI on the PS3 to be a little easier to navigate.

No real preference here, but I use the 360 version when I have a Live sub. I've always found the PS3 app slower and laggier. Never really paid much attention to quality or surround sound, I only watch TV shows anyway so I don't much care about that. Couple that with the fact that my dualshock battery sucks and is always dying, and I'm not buying a whole new controller or running a cable across the floor.

Maybe you're not watching HD feeds, or it's your service? I have no problem watching full 1080p when it's available.

It's all bandwidth dependent but much better than DVD and of course it's not Blu-ray quality. That wouldn't be a quick streaming exquisite.

Yes, you need to be an xbox live GOLD subscriber to use netflix on the xbox on top of the netflix subscription.

I prefer my 360 for pretty much all games, but the Netflix app is especially superior on the PS3. The GUI/OS on PS3 is just plain better, smoother, etc.

TBH the Netflix layout on the PS3 version is much more logical, easy to navigate, etc.

PS3, but once and awhile i fire the 360 up to see if anything has changed to make it better (so far no). I do agree with some, it seems the actual load of it is slightly slower.. but getting to it.. Metro may be loved, but its a clusterfook if you only game and use netflix, PS3 is far simpler and faster for people who don't need to know what cloths your buddies avatar is wearing. So thats a wash for me.. in it.. both seem to navigate the same speed. Watching.. constantly the PS3 has had better picture.. I have tried to figure this one out.. when I replaced my 51" with a 55" in my bedroom i had them both hooked up playing the same show.. the xbox always downgraded my picture. I thought it might be bandwidth with both going.. but shutting the PS3 off and just running it, it still dropped it to a lower res.. no idea why.. but trying 3 or 4 shows it was the same everytime.. hence .. PS3 for me.. I use my 360 for everything else.. so it sucks a bit to have to use the ps3 just for that.

btw, we watch Netflix on our release Wii over wifi and it works well. So does Amazon instant video. not hd but still works well.

I use my TV's app now, but that is just because it is more convenient.

Not trying to sway you into using the 360 because I honestly don't care, but you can pin apps/games on the 360. I have Netflix pinned in the first slot so I can basically turn on the system, press down, A, A....and I'm in Netflix.

I haven't compared the quality, but is it really that different? Netflix (even when I had 75mbps down / 10 up; tested not theoritcal) still looked awful compared to an actual 1080p source. This was the same on PC and the 360 for me, so I can't imagine the PS3 being somehow better.

1080p coming from a streaming source is not going to look as good as 1080p from a bluray.

however i streamed the same movies on 360 and ps3, on their own amazon prime apps, and the quality was SIGNIFICANTLY better on the ps3 version. again, not netflix, but it doesn't surprise me that netflix on 360 is worse quality than ps3.

why? i have no clue.

Yeah the ps3 app was pretty bad at first, but they really put some work into it. Wish they'd do the same for the Roku version :\
