Netgear MR814 range?

Picked one up (thanks hot deals forum!) and was wondering the range on the sucker.. I live in a condo and the my rooms are seperated with pretty thick walls (the entire sq. footage is around 1800 sq. feet).. I'm thinking about putting the router in my bedroom - smack in the middle of my place.. Should this work or do I have to put it in my hallway or something?

Officially, its operating range is "up to 500 ft. indoors." Of course, YMMV. IIWY, I'd just put it in the bedroom. If all the machines can't reach it there, move it to the hallway...

Range also depends on interference, wiring in the house, etc. But you already knew that, I'm sure. Anyway.

I have the Netgear router. My house is 1900 SF. The router is in the office/bedroom at the front of the house. I can take my old IBM 760XL with a Netgear PC card anywhere in the house. Plus I can take it out to our back porch and surf. While our home is typical fram construction, this means the signal must go thru several walls.

I recently got a new Dell laptop that has the Intel 2100 card in it. It seems to give me a little more distance and a little stronger signal. So YMMV depending on what PC Card/Adapter you are using.

I'm very pleased with the distance and signal I get. While cordless phones do not seem to interfer with the network, the network seems to interfer with the cordless phone. I have just ordered a couple of 900MHz phones in hopes of solving that. The microwave will interfer with my laptop if it is anywhere near the microwave when on or if the microwave is between the laptop and router. However, my kids computers seem to be far enough away from the microwave not to be bother by it.

I picked one up too (free after rebates ) and I have found that it has pretty good range. The computer communicating with the router is three walls and a bathroom away, yet it still gets 100% signal strength.

Many people have stucco homes, which has tons of chicken wire.

You know, I had not thought of that. Being in AZ, our home is stucco. That is probably why the signal drops so quickly once I get outside, even tho the distance is not that great...
