Network Card not working, but why?

Ok so I pieced together a new computer out of some old/new parts. Orginally everything was working perfectly, but then suddenly the internet/network wasn't working. Windows states everything is working perfectly, but I have a hunch that it's a problem with the Sound Blaster Audigy's Legacy drivers. Windows 2000 doesn't let me simply disable them, and there might be a problem with the ACPI or any number of things. The reason I posted this in the general hardware forum and not networking is because I think its not a networking problem, but an Audigy problem.

So my questions are:

Has anyone had similar networking problems?
How do I disable the legacy sound drivers in windows 2000


Here are the specs:

Lian Li PC 60 USB (from new egg)

I had same problem, years ago, with that NIC. Was a hardware incompatibilityy (in this case with a Matrox G200 video adapter). Quick fix is a different NIC.

You said you had it working before.... did you install any drivers, or any other software since then? Sometimes, the winsock configuration can get messed up and cause the problem that you're having. One of the customers at the computer shop where I work was having the problem you're having... we needed to restore the winsock configuration on the system and once we did that, everything was working fine. Does the network card work fine when you remove the Audigy from the computer?

I swapped in a $15 Linksys card and its now working perfectly. The 3com is suppost to be a better card. Well thank you all very much for your help, its much apperciated.
