Network/Workgroup Issues

I've been trying to setup a wireless network between my new laptop and other comp for two days now. The internet is working wirelessly and all, but I can't seem to get a workgroup setup so I can transfer files. I can see the other computer if I look in the workgroup, but when clicking on it, it just tells me I don't have permissions to access and that the network location couldn't be found or whatever. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I actually got the damn thing working yesterday, because somehow (I figure because of MS patches), the windows firewall became enabled on both machines when they had been turned off. It worked for a while and I managed to transfer 8gigs of data to my laptop. Haven't been able to get it to work since then, though, just get permission denied.

all computer have to connect in the same workgroup. right click my computer --computer name- workgroup:...... if the computers are using different workgroup, change it and restart computer. remember to right click on the folders that you want to share and right click sharing and security and assign it a name so that other computer can see.

Both of those have been done. As I've said, it somehow magically worked a few times, so it seems intermittent. No idea why, can't seem to replicate.

Got the same username/password account set up on each machine? Also double check to make certain that the firewalls are off on both machines.

or if they are on just enable File & Printer Sharing under the Exceptions tab.

All this has been done....I'm still getting the same thing. I figure I've tried just about everything so far. Windows firewall is off on both machines. I did seem to have firewall-related issues when I first got it setup (it worked after I disabled it and all), but now it seems to make no difference. I see both computers when I look at my workgroup, I just can't connect to any (other than the current machine, obviously).

Does your systme show any recent updates from MS? If so, that could be the cause.

Open explorer then go to the My Network Places, Entire Network, Microsoft Windows Network, 'Workgroup' and, if you see the other systems, double click on one. If you get a login dialog, then your problem and mine are the same.
