So.. I know that we could use a switch or router. With that said this is just a curiosity question.

You have a computer with 2 networking cards. (they are same make and model)
Your internet is coming in NIC #1. Can you send it back out NIC#2 to be redistributed by a router?

again let me say that i understand that this can all be solved with a switch or a router. Im just wondering what the different possibilities are?
Thank you.

ICS, Internet Connection Sharing.

There are also several ways to do it if you do not plan on using that computer for anything else. Make that computer the router, firewall, file server, etc.

If you don't setup right you'll end up being a open relay...

Just get a cheap linksys router and you won't have any problems.

Networks, and Network Security needs to be a little bit better than MS ICS or a Proxy Server.

I agree with using a Router, but you also need some serious Virus Scanning Software, and also a few other things, like anti-spamware.

ok now this has turned into a real question other than something for fun....

at the house i get no high-speed ISP at all. so what i was thinking about was getting the PCMCIA card from a cell phone carrier and getting internet that way. (this is faster than dial up ?? correct)

So same situation kind of exists. Could i have that card {the one from the cell phone carrier} in one PC/Laptop (this would be NIC #1 and then bring that internet out NIC #2 and into a wireless router for me to connect my other computer to?

Yes, use ICS or a proxy server (AnalogX has a free proxy server that works fine). I'd recommend ICS as it allows for a seamless Internet experience, but I always had problems with it not connecting for people and I had to fiddle with settings on the host machine and the slave machine.

For ICS, you can just turn it on by right clicking on your Internet connection in the Network Settings and ... I think you go to the Sharing tab.

To set it up on each PC, just run the Network Setup tool that's built into windows.

This question should probably be posted in networking.

But question---are you close enough at your house to get a wi-fi connection on your lap top?

But other than wi-fi hotspots---wireless internet is still mostly a coming possibility---and right now tales some expensive equipment
to set up even if your location is in line of sight.

we could go either way with this being a Hardware or Networking issue.

All my wireless devices have been altered with High gain antennas, to send and to receive. (both sides)
