I've got 2 machines - a Gateway P3 running 98 and a new custom built box running 2000. I've got them sharing cable internet thru a netgear RT314 switch/router. That works great. I'm having trouble getting them to access each other on the network though. They are set to the same workgroup. On the 98 machine, I can see the name of the 2000 box, but when I try to open it (I have the C drive set to shared) it says "//COMP2 is not accessible. No permission to access resource." How do I solve that?

Second, I can't get the 98 machine to share anything. I've got file and printer sharing enabled, but when I right click on a drive or folder, there is no sharing option. Any idea what could be preventing that?

Both machines are set to share over TCP/IP and that's the only protocol installed.

Well, first of all with the W2K machine you need add the Win98 user profile to the "Users and Passwords" in the Control Panel. Make it a Poweruser. Second, on the Win 98 machine you need to go in to Networking properties and turn on File and Print sharing. You don't really need to mess too much with TCP/IP since they are both Microsoft machines you should be able to use NETBEUI. I hope this is enough for ya. If not then let me know.

Actually, if I'm not 100% accurate (although I believe if I'm not then I'm damn close) I ish some one else would correct me since I haven't worked with Win98 for a couple of months now. Thanks.

The 98 machine is not set up for multiple users - how do I set up the 2K user then? I've tried setting the everybody group in 2K to give access, but that didn't help.

In network neighborhood, the 98 machine can see that the 2K one is there, but can't access it. The 2000 machine doesn't even see the 98 one.

on your 2k machine enable guest account...add the user in win98 machine as a guest on the 2k machine...should be good after that from what youve said youve done already...
good luck

EDIT: if you still have probs...pm me...

I set up a user on the 98 box and now can access the 2000 machine from it - thanks for the help! Any ideas now on why I can't share the folders on the 98 machine? I've got file/printer sharing enabled, but no sharing option appears...
