I've done a lot of benchmarking on Neverwinter Nights (I play in a persistent world, www.exaria.net) and the consensus is that nVidia cards run this game much better than Ati cards, in terms of average framerate, minimum framerates, quality (Ati cards give strange shadows sometimes, messed up textures, etc) and stability. I have an Ati 9700 myself, and I get about 38 fps average at 1152x864 with all settings cranked. If you play a lot of other games also and want an Ati card, anything above a 9600XT or so will be alright, as has been said. If you pretty much exclusively play NWN, you'll want something like a 5900.

NWN ran fine on my 1266MHz tbird and GF2 GTS. Just about any modern system should handle it.

I'm currently playing it on my AMD Athlon Barton 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ with 512MB PC3200 RAM, Win XP Pro, and a GFTi4200 128MB AGP card. It runs very fast with no problems or sound glitches.

I have seen the odd shadows, etc, on my 9700 Pro. I run the game at 1280x1024 and don't *really* run into choppiness, but it's not the smoothest game I've ever played either. Then again, I'm anal about my framerates. I hate going below 60 FPS in anything, and NWN definitely drops below that. (2x Xeon 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Radeon 9700 Pro)

Well I guess I'll jump into buying it. I do a lot of research before buying a game, cause i don't want to end up wasting time playing a pathetic game. ohh i forgot to ask, is it a good game? im a big fan of rpgs.

You should really move this thread to the software forum. However I can advise you to check the bioware forum. The distributor Atari has a lousy copyprotection on the CD. Lousy in terms that my bought copies of NWN and NWN:SoU are not playable without no cd patch on my HD via image or both my drives.

I would recommend getting 1GB of RAM. Any more is overkill for your rig. Generals is very good, but another resource hog. It scales as high as 3Ghz and like strong vid cards. It runs faster oin ATi cards. It is the opposite in that regard to NWN

But your rig will play Generals fine. Maybe not at 1280 max and up, but 1024 and 1152res with high details should be fine.
The addon Zero Hour is a bit more demanding but way more fun then the main game.

hope this helps

It was a pretty stupid game, but I couldn't stop playing it. I played it though twice.

Something weird just happened, I was playing SimCity 4 on my XP2700+ and my pc just shut down. My cpu temperature is 62 degree celsius. Could it be because i went from 133fsb to 166fsb?

Yes it is good. As far as I know it is the most detailed Dungeon and Dragon's game ever made. Detailed in the fact that it considers far more aspects of minor things that other games tend to ignore to simplify. Thus it can take 2-3 hours to start with a good character. Once you start it is a great game.

The original NWN storyline is a bit lame - too much reading. The expansion packs have better story lines and I've played them many times. I hear the user created downloads are much better but I haven't had time to play around with them much.
