This is the first week in quite a while that we haven't already had some kind of pre-announcement, and it's a pretty cool pack of singles, including Dio! It looks like the DLC has started to benefit from some of the RB3 artist licensing, since Dio is on disc there.

Hey gang,

Here's the singles coming your way as DLC next week. We know you guys like the varied assortment, so hopefully there's something for everyone here. Personally, I'm thrilled by the pairing of Dio and Morrissey, metal icon and the poster boy for over the top sensitivity. Both artists are featured on RB3, Dio with Rainbow in the Dark, and Morrissey on The Smiths track. Check them out here first and get amped up for RB3 on October 26th!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Sept. 14):

Dio – “Holy Diver” +
Dio – “Stand Up and Shout” +
Juliana Hatfield – “Nirvana”
Morrissey – “Irish Blood, English Heart”
Silverchair – “Straight Lines”
The Smiths – “This Charming Man” +
Underoath – “Writing on the Walls”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Sept. 15)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “+” will also be available for download in the family-friendly LEGO® Rock Band Music Store.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Here's an early heads up - VH1 is advertising a pack from Bob Marley's greatest hits album, Legend, for release on 9/21. No word yet on specific songs or pack size.

Here's an early heads up - VH1 is advertising a pack from Bob Marley's greatest hits album, Legend, for release on 9/21. No word yet on specific songs or pack size.

We are getting confirmation from MTV on this pack now, in fact the entire Legend album is being released next week (minus Get Up Stand Up, which is on the RB3 disc). So it's a huge 13-pack for the reggae fans out there.

Bob Marley fans may be wondering whether the rumor we posted earlier this week about "Legend" coming to "Rock Band" as DLC would turn out to be true. Well, good news, as we just received the official confirmation from the "Rock Band" folks that all thirteen tracks from the classic record are coming to the "Rock Band" music store on September 21.

In addition to the confirmation, we also received a statement from Bob Marley's world-renowned son, Ziggy Marley: "My father was interested in bringing reggae music to the entire world, and now that his music is coming to 'Rock Band,' as the first reggae artist in the game, we are excited to open the doors to reggae music to a whole new group of young people."

The full track list, which will be available for download on September 21 (US) and September 22 (Europe) on Wii, 360 and PS3, is as follows:

• "Is This Love" +
• "No Woman No Cry" +
• "Could You Be Loved"
• "Three Little Birds" +
• "Buffalo Soldier"
• "Stir It Up"
• "One Love/People Get Ready"
• "I Shot the Sheriff"
• "Waiting in Vain" +
• "Redemption Song"
• "Satisfy My Soul" +
• "Exodus"
• "Jamming"

(While all of the tracks will be available in the standard "Rock Band" music score, the tracks marked with a "+" are also available in the "LEGO Rock Band" music score, which only contains music appropriate for all-ages.)

Here's a rundown of the pricing structure for the songs:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points) per song
$19.99, £9.99 UK, €14.99 EU (1,080 Microsoft Points) for the complete "Legend" album

It's no coincidence that timing of the release of "Legend" is 30 years after Marley's last public performance. The release of the pack will act as a prelude to a memorial concert on September 23 to benefit the One Love Foundation, with members of the Marley family coming together with special guests to perform in Pittsburgh. Details on that show can be found here.

Kotaku has popped the lid early on next week's DLC, and what a great variety it is. An Anthrax pack for the metal fans, classic Doobie Brothers, and I'm happy to see another 30 Seconds to Mars track - and some of the ones I didn't know sound pretty darn good too. They also knocked out another song from Guitar Hero 2, which had a cover of Madhouse.

Harmonix is making Rock Band's already massive song list a little heavier next week, adding a fresh injection of thrash metal, thanks to Anthrax. That's just a small slice of the rock band coming to Rock Band soon.

Portions of Anthrax's "Among The Living," released in 1986, will join new tracks from not-quite-as-metal acts The Doobie Brothers, Buckcherry, Atreyu, and 30 Seconds to Mars. The two My Chemical Romance songs that I like but would never admit to in a public forum are also en route. Here's the full list.

* Anthrax – "Among the Living"
* Anthrax – "I'm the Man"
* Anthrax – "Indians" +
* Anthrax – "Madhouse (Live)" +
* Anthrax – "Metal Thrashing Mad (Live)" +
* My Chemical Romance – "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"
* My Chemical Romance – "Welcome to the Black Parade"
* 30 Seconds to Mars – "Closer to the Edge" +
* Atreyu – "Coffin Nails"
* Buckcherry – "Out of Line"
* The Doobie Brothers – "Listen to the Music" +
* The Doobie Brothers – "Long Train Runnin'" +

Harmonix, upon informing Kotaku of the latest thrash metal addition to Rock Band, took a moment to remind us of just how metal the game series' library is. Whether you prefer your metal black, thrash, industrial, glam, speed or some variant with which I'm not familiar, there's something there, going by Harmonix's brag list.

Next week is surprising and exciting as Harmonix delivers a big fat REM 8-pack and also a 3-pack of T-Rex. I can't wait to torture my wife with the vocals on "It's the End of the World As We Know It"!

Hey gang,

Here's the DLC coming out next week, bringing us 11 songs closer to 2,000 songs total for the library! There's an 8 pack of hits from R.E.M. and a 3 pack of classic T. Rex tracks, all of which will be good for you and should be downloaded immediately. I'm especially looking forward to "It's the End of the World As We Know It", at the very least to see who can make it through the song without running out of breath! Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Oct. 5):

R.E.M. – “Driver 8” +
R.E.M. – “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (and I Feel Fine)” +
R.E.M. – “Living Well Is the Best Revenge”
R.E.M. – “Radio Free Europe” +
R.E.M. – “Stand” +
R.E.M. – “Superman” +
R.E.M. – “These Days” +
R.E.M. – “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?”
T. Rex – “Children of the Revolution” +
T. Rex – “Cosmic Dancer” +
T. Rex – “Jeepster”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Oct. 6)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “R.E.M. Pack 01” and “T. Rex Pack 01” on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system and as individual tracks on Wii. Tracks marked with “+” will also be available for download in the family-friendly LEGO® Rock Band Music Store.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (680 Microsoft Points) for T. Rex Pack 01
$13.49, £8.99 UK, €11.88 EU (1,080 Microsoft Points) for R.E.M. Pack 01

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Didn't know there was such a thing. Not sure I can find good uses for all those points though it is decent deal.

Here's some huge news for classic rock fans. IGN is reporting (and HMX confirms) that Jimi Hendrix's first album, Are You Experienced? is coming out next week as DLC. It will contain a mix of live and studio tracks; no word on which songs are live/studio yet. It should contain:

Purple Haze
Manic Depression
Hey Joe
Love or Confusion
May This Be Love
I Don't Live Today
The Wind Cries Mary
Foxey Lady
Are You Experienced?

Note that "Fire" is not included since it is already available via Lego Rock Band.

EDIT: By the way, there is some debate about which version of the album we are getting, as there is a later re-release that contains more tracks. So there might be more than what is listed above, but don't count on it.

A quick update on this pack - it is coming as promised, and in fact some of those songs from the album rerelease are included - "Stone Free" and "Highway Chile". Also, in a very surprising move, a live version of "Fire" from Woodstock is in the pack, which complements the studio version released with Lego Rock Band. There is one oddity - the song "I Don't Live Today" is not included in the track list for some reason. The updated track list is in the OP.

Great news for 80s freaks like me! A nice pack of Bon Jovi hits is coming to DLC at some point after the launch of Rock Band 3. However, the article is somewhat inaccurate since it claims the entire two-disc Bon Jovi set is coming. Harmonix has confirmed that the pack will not be larger than 12 tracks. Still, up to 12 more tracks of Bon Jovi in addition to the three already available on disc is fantastic as far as I'm concerned!

There's a hot rumor floating around about DLC from The Doors for the Rock Band 3 launch, with some screenshots included. In fact, a Doors 3-pack is rumored to be free, with an additional 9-pack available for purchase! There's no word if you have to do anything special to qualify for the free pack (like buy RB3 by a certain date, for example). Here are the rumored songs:

Free(?) pack:

Riders on the Storm
Light My Fire
Touch Me

Doors Greatest Hits Pack:

Hello, I Love You
L.A. Woman
Love Her Madly
Love Me Two Times
Peace Frog
People Are Strange
Roadhouse Blues
Soul Kitchen
The Crystal Ship

Note that you will need Rock Band 3 to get any of this, since this is presumably coming on 10/26 which marks the beginning of the RB3 DLC. It will not be backward compatible with RB2 any more (though of course RB1/RB2 DLC will work in RB3).

This rumor is now confirmed by Harmonix. It looks like the free period is restricted to 10/26 - 11/1. The free tracks also feature pro guitar, which is pretty cool.

Rockband is for wankers. I just can't picture grown ass men jamming away on a plastic guitar. I mean, WTF!

Grow a pair, buy a controller, and go play some real games.

Well, here it is folks, the last ever official DLC for Rock Band 1/2! (RBN will still be releasing RB1/2 DLC until it gets the planned RBN 2.0 upgrade for Rock Band 3.) Next week's offering is a 6-pack of Stone Temple Pilots and a 3-pack of Jimmy Eat World. It's nice to see Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart, that knocks out another song that was available in Guitar Hero 2.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Oct. 19):

Stone Temple Pilots – “Big Empty”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Crackerman”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Creep”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Dead & Bloated”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Huckleberry Crumble”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart”
Jimmy Eat World – “Bleed American”
Jimmy Eat World – “My Best Theory” +
Jimmy Eat World – “Pain”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Oct. 20)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Stone Temple Pilots Pack 01” and “Jimmy Eat World Pack 02” and on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system and as individual tracks on Wii. Tracks marked with “+” will also be available for download in the family-friendly LEGO® Rock Band Music Store.

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$9.99, £4.99 UK, €7.99 EU (800 Microsoft Points) for Stone Temple Pilots Pack 01

$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points) for Jimmy Eat World Pack 02

By the way, I usually don't say much about RBN releases because there's just too much to keep up with, but old-school Transformers fans might want to check out The Touch by Stan Bush just released on RBN. It was part of the soundtrack to the 1986 animated Transformers film. It also came out on Guitar Hero World Tour quite a while back. It's definitely got that 80s rock sound, I may have to pick it up.

You want to look in the Rock Band 3 thread for those answers. I'm fairly certain that the answer is no. Pro Mode will likely be available only in RB3 and RB3 DLC songs, plus any places where they back-port some of the existing songs to support it (but those will probably be treated as additional DLC).

If you are asking if older DLC will support pro guitar, the answer is no. The only pro item that is in old DLC is pro drums (i.e. cymbal charting), since the data was already in the files, it just wasn't used before. The new features like harmonies and keyboards are only in RB3 DLC, which starts next week with The Doors. Harmonix has said that they are looking at updating some of the old DLC for RB3 features, but nothing official is announced yet.

Pro guitar/bass will only be available on selected tracks (apparently it takes a huge amount of effort to chart) and will cost $1 extra. The extra $1 is a separate pro upgrade so those folks not interested in pro guitar won't have to pay for it.

Since it's almost 10/19 and I'm busy tomorrow, I went ahead and posted The Doors DLC for 10/26 (including the free 3-pack if you get RB3 by 11/1!). I've got to figure out which other Doors songs I want; People are Strange is a must. It's giving me flashbacks the to The Lost Boys, though that version was an Echo & the Bunnymen cover.

This release starts the era of Rock Band 3 DLC! The first three weeks are somewhat mapped out - first we get The Doors, then 11/2 is a mystery, then 11/9 will probably be the Bon Jovi pack, since their greatest hits collection drops that day. There have been some vague rumors floating around about Rush or Billy Joel DLC (either of which would be GREAT), but don't get your hopes up, it's nothing concrete yet.

HARMONIX ANNOUNCES THAT THE DOORS ARE THE FIRST BAND WITH ROCK BAND 3 DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT, FEATURING KEYS AND PRO MODE

Rock Band 3 Owners Can Download “Light My Fire,” “Riders on the Storm” and “Touch Me” for Free Through the In-Game Music Store During Launch Week

Newly-Discovered Live Doors Set Releases Nov. 22 on Rhino Records/Bright Midnight Archives

Cambridge, Mass. – Oct. 13, 2010 – Harmonix, the world’s premier music video game developer, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced that the legendary music of The Doors will be the first available for download in Rock Band 3 when the game launches Oct. 26 in North America and Oct. 29 in the rest of the world for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Nintendo Wii™ and Nintendo DS™, and MTV Games and Harmonix are giving away three of The Doors’ songs for one week to any fan that purchases Rock Band 3 and plays online to celebrate the release of the game.

"I'm very excited that keyboards are finally a part of Rock Band. It's about time you guys got hip to the necessity of keys in rock,” said Ray Manzarek, keyboardist for The Doors. “This is going to be great for all the gamers, because it’s a lot more difficult. Rock Band 3 will require some brainwork, so let's 'Break On Through!' By the way, get those free downloads: 'Light My Fire,' 'Riders On the Storm' and 'Touch Me' are all great keyboard songs. And look out for The Doors' lost masterpiece, Live in Vancouver, when it releases Nov. 22!"

“At the outset of the Rock Band 3 project, we identified The Doors, with their powerful songs driven by intricately woven keyboard, guitar and drum parts, as an ideal partner for our game,” said Paul DeGooyer, Senior Vice President of Music, Electronic Games and Programming for MTV Networks. “As they are also one of the greatest rock bands of all time, we are tremendously proud that they will be the first artist featured in the Rock Band 3 download store and that we’re able to bring this special offer of their music to everyone who buys Rock Band 3 the week it releases.”

On Oct. 26, 12 of The Doors’ most-loved songs, including three tracks with the Pro Guitar and Pro Bass feature, will be added to the Rock Band 3 Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. It was previously announced that The Doors’ quintessential song, “Break On Through (To the Other Side)” is featured in the on-disc soundtrack of Rock Band 3 and is also the soundtrack for the game's opening cinematic clip.
A three-pack of songs that feature Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade downloads will be available for free to fans that purchase Rock Band 3 and play online during the first week the game is available (Oct. 26 – Nov. 1). The free pack, which is available only through the Rock Band 3 in-game Music Store, includes “Light My Fire,” “Riders on the Storm” and “Touch Me,” which incorporate five-button guitar and bass, Drums, Pro Drums and Keys, Pro Keys and harmonies, where applicable, as well as a free expansion that will add Pro Guitar and Pro Bass parts.

Additionally, a nine-pack of songs from The Doors will also be available for download that week. This includes some of the classic rockers’ most-loved songs, like “Hello, I Love You,” “L.A. Woman,” “Love Her Madly” and “Roadhouse Blues,” all featuring Drums, Pro Drums, five-button guitar and bass parts and, where applicable, harmonies and Keys/Pro Keys parts. A complete list of the songs that will be available is as follows:

“Light My Fire” (Free from Oct. 26 – Nov. 1 in game, features Pro Guitar and Pro Bass)

“Touch Me” (Free from Oct. 26 – Nov. 1 in game, features Pro Guitar and Pro Bass)
“Hello, I Love You”
“L.A. Woman”
“Love Her Madly”
“Love Me Two Times”
“Peace Frog”
“People Are Strange”
“Roadhouse Blues”
“Soul Kitchen”
“The Crystal Ship”

Beginning Nov. 2, The Door’s Rock Band downloads will be available for purchase only as individual songs or in a bundle of all 12 songs.

Hot damn, the minute I mention a rumor about Billy Joel, BAM, 12-pack confirmed! No word on songs yet though.

Billy Joel 12-pack in RB3

One more new project has Joel venturing into virtual competition. A dozen of his hits will be downloadable for the video game Rock Band 3, out Tuesday. "I've never allowed my music to be used in a game before," but an Entertainment Weekly review of NBC's The Office changed his mind.

Alluding to an episode in which characters mention a Rock Band featuring Billy Joel, "the critic wrote something like, 'God forbid that ever should happen.' So I called my people and said, 'Get me (on) that Rock Band game.' Then I wrote the critic, saying that every time I get a check, I'll give him a little nod."
