Harmonix has confirmed this and revealed 10 of the 12 songs! However, the pack is not coming out until December 14th. Since that's pretty far off, I've added this to the special announcements section in the OP.

Big Shot
Captain Jack
It’s Still Rock N Roll to Me
Movin’ Out
Only The Good Die Young
Piano Man
Pressure
Say Goodbye to Hollywood
The Entertainer
The Stranger
+ 2 more??

The Billy Joel news just keeps coming! Now there is a press release that states:

Rock Band is excited to offer a new Billy Joel edition of the popular video game, providing a masterful keyboard experience of his music to fans around the world through two downloadable game packs: a "Hits" pack of 12 songs arriving in December 2010 followed by a 6-song "Piano Challenge" pack in the spring.

That's 18 songs of Billy Joel goodness. I'm definitely getting both packs. I really hope "Goodnight Saigon" makes it in there somewhere, but that's a deeper cut so it's questionable.

Harmonix keeps hitting us with more announcements on the eve of the RB3 launch. Now they have announced full album DLC of John Lennon's Imagine. No word yet on the specific release date.

EDIT: By the way, they have taken down the Rock Band web site to overhaul it for the RB3 release, so you may not be able to reach the link for quite some time today.

Cambridge, MA – Oct. 25, 2010 – Raising the bar once again for interactive music games with the addition of groundbreaking new features that include keyboards, vocal harmonies and Rock Band Pro Mode, Harmonix Music Systems Inc., the world’s premier music video game developer, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today proudly announced that Imagine, the timeless album from John Lennon, will be among the first albums released as Rock Band™ 3 downloadable content.

"The songs on John Lennon's Imagine run the gamut from beautiful piano-driven ballads like ‘Jealous Guy’ to all-out guitar rockers like ‘Gimme Some Truth’,” said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Networks. "It's an incredible musical statement, and a real workout on keyboard, guitar and vocals in Rock Band 3. We're very excited to confirm it as one of the first downloads for our new game, and to help our fans celebrate John's 70th birthday with its release."

It looks like Harmonix has mostly decided to take a week off after the madness of RB3 release week (the RB forums have been absolutely crazy, I can't even being to keep up). There's only 1 new song next week - "Subdivisions" by Rush. While I'm incredibly happy for any new Rush (my favorite band), I'm also very disappointed that this probably means there will be no large Rush pack like I was hoping for. The Doors tracks, which are currently only available in packs, will also be available as singles as of next week.

DLC Week of 11/2 - Rush's Subdivisions and The Doors 12 Pack / Singles!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 2):

Rush – “Subdivisions” X
The Doors – “Light My Fire” X
The Doors – “Riders on the Storm” X
The Doors – “Touch Me” X
The Doors – “Hello, I Love You”
The Doors – “L.A. Woman”
The Doors – “Love Her Madly”
The Doors – “Love Me Two Times”
The Doors – “Peace Frog”
The Doors – “People Are Strange”
The Doors – “Roadhouse Blues”
The Doors – “Soul Kitchen”
The Doors – “The Crystal Ship”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Nov. 3)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “The Doors Greatest Hits: Special Edition” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.75 EU per song for Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$19.99, £9.99 UK, €14.99 EU (1,600 Microsoft Points, 2,000 Wii Points) for The Doors Greatest Hits: Special Edition

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

The expected Bon Jovi pack has arrived this week, along with the Gamestop preorder singles (I thought they'd be exclusive longer). In a surprise move, HMX has reissued the 3 already-released Bon Jovi songs in this pack, updated with RB3 features such as keyboards and harmonies. There's no discount for anyone who already has the old tracks, but I doubt that would be workable anyway within the context of the various console marketplaces. I'm getting this whole pack!

EDIT: Also note that if you want to purchase the pro-guitar addon, you must have the RB3 version of the track; you cannot update an old version of Wanted Dead or Alive (for example) with pro guitar.

Hey gang,

Hopefully all of you have been enjoying Rock Band 3! Here's the DLC coming out next week: a 12 pack of Bon Jovi's greatest hits, including the first back catalog songs updated for Pro mode! We're also releasing the 3 singles that were previously only available to the clever folks that pre ordered RB3 from GameStop. Be sure to check out the songs marked with "X" and view the pricing info below to see which tracks have Pro Guitar and Bass upgrades available.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 9):

Bon Jovi – “Bad Medicine”
Bon Jovi – “Blaze of Glory”
Bon Jovi – “Have a Nice Day”
Bon Jovi – “I’ll Be There For You”
Bon Jovi – “It’s My Life”
Bon Jovi – “Lay Your Hands On Me”
Bon Jovi – “Livin’ on a Prayer (RB3 version)” X
Bon Jovi – “Runaway” X
Bon Jovi – “Wanted Dead or Alive (RB3 version)” X
Bon Jovi – “We Weren’t Born to Follow”
Bon Jovi – “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”
Bon Jovi – “You Give Love a Bad Name (RB3 version)” X
Deftones – “My Own Summer (Shove It)” X
New Order – “Blue Monday” X
Talking Heads – “Burning Down the House” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Nov. 10)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Bon Jovi Greatest Hits: Rock Band Edition” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.75 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$19.99, £9.99 UK, €14.99 EU (1,600 Microsoft Points, 2,000 Wii Points) for Bon Jovi Greatest Hits: Rock Band Edition

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

I wonder how they choose what to include pro guitar on because I'm not buying anything that doesn't have it and some of those other BonJovi songs look like they would have been a good fit.

so these new tracks, they'll work on RB2 now, and when i upgrade to RB3, they will have the pro modes too?

I don't have time to look for it but I thought I read that all dlc now will not work with RB2. It is only forward compatible because of some changes in the tech.

Wait, I thought all DLC from now on is playable in RB3 only, even if it doesn't have pro guitar/bass?

Also, the wording in that press release is shady, they make it sound like for the 3 Bon Jovi tracks already in the RB catalog, that there is now pro mode available for them. Then you read further and find that you have to purchase the entire track (again). I get the feeling that Harmonix is going to come out later and say that they actually cannot upgrade/update older tracks for pro mode, and we will have to buy them again if we want the pro modes.

As everyone else already stated, all new DLC (starting with The Doors on 10/26) will only work in Rock Band 3 since it contains RB3-specific features (i.e. keyboards and harmonies). There will be no more new DLC for RB2 except what is coming out on RBN (until RBN gets upgraded to the next version).

You are correct, but if you purchase the track again, you do get keys, pro keys and harmonies. You can then choose to spend an additional dollar for pro guitar and bass if you like.

I don't know what is going to happen with future DLC updates or if all updates will require rebuys. This situation is a bit unusual in that all the updated tracks were on-disc songs, not DLC.

For those interested in the Bon Jovi DLC, I'm going to pimp an RBN band I just discovered because their style is similar. Free Spirit is a band from Finland (believe it or not!) that has a great 80s/90s rock sound. They have 3 songs available on RBN which I've linked below. You can also listen to five of their songs at Hitlantis.

Free Spirit - Far Away From Heaven
Free Spirit - Pale Sister of Light
Free Spirit - Until the Night

Even better, these excellent songs are only 80 MSP!

Here's an extra FREE tidbit for next week, at least on the 360. A dozen RBN bands are releasing a 10-minute mix track to promote their songs, called the RBN Megamix. It will be available for download on RBN on Tuesday, August 31st.

Rock Band Network Megamix

Hey, it's been a while, but a fixed version of the RBN Megamix is available now (the original version had broken vocals and was pulled). If you downloaded it before, delete it and redownload to get the fix. I think my favorite song of the mix may be Bow Down by Chrome Coma.

OK, I guess I knew that the flood of awesome DLC we've been seeing lately had to stop sometime. Get out your lesiure suits, because G4 is reporting that a 6-pack of the Bee Gees is coming out next week. Harmonix has even confirmed this.

Jive Talkin’
Night Fever
Stayin’ Alive
Nights on Broadway
Tragedy
You Should Be Dancing

Not my cup of tea, but I'm guessing somebody wants this.

Well, it looks like next week is oldies week in DLC land, but we do get a couple of singles besides the Bee Gees pack. If you are saying "Procul who?" and are not a youngin', give it a listen, you'll probably recognize it. I may have to pick up that BB King, especially once I get my Squier. As usual, check the OP for convenient video links.

Hey gang,

Not only are three epic artists joining RB for the first time next week, but they've got Pro mode covered in spades! There are epic harmonies for The Bee Gees, keys galore for A Whiter Shade of Pale (give it a listen, I bet you'll recognize it) and you couldn't ask for a better Pro guitar teacher than B.B. King. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 16):

Bee Gees – “Jive Talkin’”
Bee Gees – “Night Fever”
Bee Gees – “Stayin’ Alive” X
Bee Gees – “Nights on Broadway”
Bee Gees – “Tragedy”
Bee Gees – “You Should Be Dancing”
B.B. King – “The Thrill Is Gone” X
Procol Harum – “A Whiter Shade of Pale”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Nov. 17)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “The Bee Gees Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.75 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$9.99, £4.99 UK, €7.99 EU (800 Microsoft Points, 1,000 Wii Points) for The Bee Gees Pack 01

As already reported, Imagine is coming next week. I probably won't get the full album but I may pick up a few tracks.

Hey gang,

As we announced just prior to launch (in this now classic post right here) John Lennon's Imagine is coming as DLC. But guess what? It's coming next week! Check out the details below and get your piano hands ready! And if you don't have an extra set of piano hands then your regular hands should do.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 23):

“Crippled Inside”
“Jealous Guy”
“It’s So Hard”
“I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier Mama”
“Gimme Some Truth”
“Oh My Love”
“How Do You Sleep?” X
“How?”
“Oh Yoko!”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Nov. 24)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Imagine (Album)” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$14.99, £7.49 UK, €10.99 EU (1,200 Microsoft Points, 1,500 Wii Points) for Imagine (Album)

Heads up, a couple of DLC packs are on sale for Xbox as part of the XBL Black Friday sale which starts today. I think I will grab Nirvana Pack 02 (which has the more popular stuff) since I haven't gotten it yet.

Lady Gaga Pack 01 - 280 Microsoft Points - 50% off
Nirvana Pack 01 - 640 Microsoft Points - 27% off
Nirvana Pack 02 - 240 Microsoft Points - 45% off

Also, there's a deal going where if you buy and CD/record from participating record stores on Black Friday, you can get a free download of Roadhouse Blues by The Doors.

Wow! The DLC awesomeness train is rolling again! For some reason the Rock Band forums are hosed right now, so I can't get the official text, but RockBandAide has the early Thanksgiving DLC announcement and HMX twitters confirms it. Sweet Home Alabama? Hold On Loosely? Sign me up!

38 Special – Hold On Loosely [PRO]
Bad Company – Can’t Get Enough [PRO]
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Saturday Night Special [PRO]
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Sweet Home Alabama (Live) [PRO]
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Tuesday’s Gone
Lynyrd Skynyrd – What’s Your Name? [PRO]

Even better, almost all of them have pro guitar upgrades available.

Holy cow, I need more MS points between this week, next week and the Billy Joel pack coming after that! Queen has been one of the most-requested bands for RB3 upgrades (keys and harmonies) and Harmonix has delivered some of those, plus some new Queen tracks (I'm really happy to see Hammer to Fall). Also, nearly all of them offer pro guitar.

The only disappointing thing is that there is no upgrade path for those of us that already have the original Queen pack. I'm not really surprised, and it may not even be very feasible to do that within the context of the console marketplaces - for example, I doubt there is any provision for making the price of DLC depend on whether another piece of DLC is already owned. But still, it would have been nice.

Regardless, all Queen is an automatic buy for me!

Hey gang,

The DLC coming your way next week includes not one, but TWO epic Queen packs! The first pack contains some deeper cuts as well as RB3 versions of the two tracks that originally appeared on Lego Rock Band, and the second pack is made up entirely of RB3 versions of fan favorite tracks from the RB DLC library. 10 of these 12 songs have Pro Guitar / Bass upgrades available, and with harmonies now available on all these tracks you can sing them the way they were meant to be sung. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Dec. 7):

Queen Extravaganza Pack 01

“Hammer to Fall” X
“Keep Yourself Alive” X
“Now I’m Here” X
“Play the Game” X
“Tenement Funster” X
“We Are the Champions” (RB3 version)
“We Will Rock You” (RB3 version)

Queen RB3 Enhanced Pack

“I Want It All” (RB3 version) X
“I Want To Break Free” (RB3 version) X
“Killer Queen” (RB3 version) X
“One Vision” (RB3 version) X
“Somebody To Love” (RB3 version) X
“Under Pressure” (RB3 version) X

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Dec. 8)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Queen RB3 Enhanced Pack” and “Queen Extravaganza Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$9.99, £4.99 UK, €7.99 EU (800 Microsoft Points, 1,000 Wii Points) for Queen RB3 Enhanced Pack

$10.99, £5.99 UK, €8.99 EU (880 Microsoft Points, 1,100 Wii Points) for Queen Extravaganza Pack 01
