Next week we are getting the previously-announced Billy Joel pack. As suspected, there are 2 additional songs that weren't in the original announcement - We Didn't Start the Fire and You May Be Right. This pack is another insta-buy for me; Harmonix continues its incredible pillaging of my wallet over the last few months.

Hey gang,

As announced a few weeks ago, and confirmed with specific dates and pricing now for your enjoyment, next week we'll be seeing DLC from the Piano Man himself, Billy Joel! "We Didn't Start The Fire" and "You May Be Right" join the 10 previously announced tracks to round out this killer 12 pack.

But don't take it from me! Here's what the man himself had to say about the pack:

"The addition of the keyboard made me interested in bringing my music to Rock Band," said Billy Joel. "The game introduces music to an enthusiastic audience in a powerful way, and now also helps players get a grasp on the fundamentals of the keyboard."

There you have it! Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Dec. 14):

· “Big Shot” X
· “Captain Jack”
· “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me”
· “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)” X
· “Only the Good Die Young” X
· “Piano Man”
· “Pressure”
· “Say Goodbye to Hollywood”
· “The Entertainer”
· “The Stranger”
· “We Didn’t Start the Fire”
· “You May Be Right”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Dec. 15)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Billy Joel The Hits: Rock Band Edition” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$19.99, £9.99 UK, €14.99 EU (1,600 Microsoft Points, 2,000 Wii Points) for Billy Joel The Hits: Rock Band Edition

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Gamestop has updated their site with some new details on the Country Track Pack 2. They currently claim the release date is 2/1/2011, but that's not official. What's more interesting is that it will have 21 tracks and they have posted a partial list:

Darryl Worley - Awful Beautiful Life
Gary Allan - Man of Me
George Strait - Twang
Jason Aldean - Crazy Town
Justin Moore - Backwoods
Lady Antebellum - Perfect Day
Laura Bell Bundy - Giddy On Up
Luke Bryan - Rain Is A Good Thing
Rascal Flatts - Summer Nights
Shania Twain - Party For Two (w/Billy Currington)

Past track packs have included some already released DLC, but so far these are all new. One downside is that these will probably be RB2 tracks (i.e. no harmonies/keyboards) because of the engine being used with the track pack, but that is not certain.

Well, next week is different. We get a John Lennon Christmas song (thumbs up from me!) and seven European singles that I'm not familiar with, I'll have to give them a spin.

Hey gang,

The holidays are almost upon us, and there are only two weeks of DLC left in 2010! John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band will help us wrap up the year with Happy Xmas (War Is Over) and they'll be joined by an assortment singles from international artists. Be sure to take a closer look at the EU singles, as I'm sure many people will know the Caesar's track, but there's some other gems in there. And don't forget about the Rock Band Network tracks listed below! There are tons of great songs on all three consoles from bands of all types.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Dec. 21):

John & Yoko, The Plastic Ono Band – Happy Xmas (War is Over)
Anaïs – “Peut-Être une Angine”
BB Brunes – “Dis-Moi” X
BAP – “Verdamp Lang Her”
Wir sind Helden – “Nur ein Wort”
Linea 77 – “Fantasma”
Litfiba – “Proibito”
Caesars – “Jerk It Out” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Dec. 22)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

Oddly, HMX announced two more euro singles for this week after the initial announcement on Friday. I added them to the OP.

Tutankamon – Starting to Appreciate
Skizoo – Dame Aire

After giving all these songs a listen, I rather like "Nur Ein Wort" (Just One Word), but I think my wife would have some issues trying to sing German lyrics.

Are all of the Billy Joel songs with the pro keys? I can't remember how that works. I know the "X" means pro guitar right?

All DLC from the RB3 release on out has pro keys if there are keys in the song (except for RBN, still waiting on the 2.0 upgrade). The X means you can upgrade to pro guitar/bass for $1. So yes, all Billy Joel has pro keys.

OK, early DLC announcement during this holiday week. I was initially confused by this announcement (huh, I already have Band on the Run?) but then I realized I have a live version and this is the original, which is a pretty unusual release pattern for HMX. So now I have to ponder whether I should rebuy. With so many Beatles members coming as RB3 DLC, you'd think they'd be able to make Beatles RB export one of these days, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wasn't familiar with Inhabited, but that track doesn't sound bad, I might grab it eventually. As usual see the OP for video links.

Merry Christmas everyone!

DLC Week of 12/28 - Paul McCartney, Wings, Siousxie and the Banshees and Inhabited!

Hey gang,

Keep the holiday joy going with the Paul McCartney DLC coming out next week! Sir Paul is now featured in the Rock Band library as a solo artist, in Wings and as part of a little know group called The Beatles. Looks like he's making a play to dethrone Dave Grohl as the artist with the most appearances in RB. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360 (Dec. 28) and Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Jan. 4):

Paul McCartney – “Maybe I’m Amazed”
Paul McCartney & Wings – “Band on the Run”
Paul McCartney & Wings – “Helen Wheels”
Paul McCartney & Wings – “Let Me Roll It” X
Inhabited – “Open My Eyes”
Siouxsie and The Banshees – “Cities in Dust” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Jan. 5)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Celebrating Band on the Run Pack” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$6.99, £3.49 UK, €5.29 EU (560 Microsoft Points, 700 Wii Points) for Celebrating Band on the Run Pack

The DLC has been a little disappointing since the launch of RB3. Way too many Beatles related music lately.

OK, killing two birds with one stone here, I just wanted to note that the special DLC announcements section of the OP has been updated with all the juicy info on the upcoming Country Track Pack 2, due out February 1st.

Next, Harmonix is starting 2011 with a bang! First, you get an 8-pack from country legend Johnny Cash - including "I Walk the Line" with pro guitar! Second, HMX is making good on their promise and is releasing a FREE 9-pack of the songs from HMX bands that did not export from Rock Band 2. I'll be happy to see Night Lies and A Jagged Gorgeous Winter again. Unfortunately the RB2 songs have not been updated with any RB3 features (though of course you still get pro drums), but hey they are free. Fortunately, those who abhor Visions can 1-lighter it this time around so that it will never pop up on them.

By the way, anyone who is looking at the Johnny Cash list and asking "Where the hell is Ring of Fire?" had better look at the Country Pack 2 info in the OP.

EDIT: I guess I should comment about the free pack not being available on the Wii. According to this post from HMX, the free pack was submitted to all 3 console vendors and Nintendo denied it, presumably because they don't usually allow free DLC. So, if there are any upset Wii users out there, you can point the finger at the boneheads at Nintendo. This is one of the several reasons I advise people to avoid using the Wii as a platform for Rock Band if possible. Perhaps they could resubmit it for some cheap price (e.g. 100 Wii points), but nothing is guaranteed right now.

DLC Week of 1/4 - Johnny Cash 8 Pack and Free Harmonix Pack

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Jan. 4):

Johnny Cash Pack 01
· “Cry, Cry, Cry”
· “Don’t Take Your Guns to Town”
· “Five Feet High and Rising”
· “Folsom Prison Blues”
· “I Got Stripes”
· “I Walk the Line” X
· “Tennessee Flat Top Box” X
· “The Ballad of Ira Hayes”

Available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system (Jan. 4):

Rock Band Free Pack 01
· Abnormality – “Visions”
· Anarchy Club – “Get Clean”
· Bang Camaro – “Night Lies”
· Breaking Wheel – “Shoulder to the Plow”
· Libyans – “Welcome to the Neighborhood”
· The Main Drag – “A Jagged Gorgeous Winter”
· Speck – “Conventional Lover”
· The Sterns – “Supreme Girl”
· That Handsome Devil – “Rob the Prez-O-Dent”

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Jan. 5)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “Johnny Cash Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii, and as “Rock Band Free Pack 01” on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$13.49, £6.69 UK, €9.99 EU (1080 Microsoft Points, 1,350 Wii Points) for Johnny Cash Pack 01
FREE on Xbox and PlayStation 3 for Rock Band Free Pack 01

Heads up, there is suddenly a completely unannounced DLC sale on Xbox Live. RockBandAide has all the details. It's old RB1/RB2 DLC (which does work in RB3 of course), but there's some great stuff in there if you still need some back catalog.

Just in case you weren't satisfied with the regular DLC announcement this morning, here's some more news. It appears that Linkin Park will be releasing an 8-pack of songs on 9/14. Two tracks will be from their new album A Thousand Suns, with the other 6 being older hits. The actual song titles are not mentioned.

Remember this Linkin Park rumor which never came to pass? It looks like it's finally coming next week on 1/11, though reportedly it will be a 6-pack, not an 8-pack. @RockBand has confirmed this via tweet. The songs are:

Crawling
In the End [PRO]
Numb
Somewhere I Belong
Waiting for the End
What I’ve Done [PRO]

In other news, the entirety of Alien Ant Farm's "ANThology" album is in the works for RBN.

Here's the official announcement of the Linkin Park DLC, a little late since the RB forums were hosed yesterday. I'm not a big LP fan but I'll have to review these a bit more, a couple of them sounded interesting.

Hey gang,

Sorry for the delay in getting this posted. The site, as I'm sure many of you noticed, was down all day yesterday. We're working on getting the site issues resolved as quickly as possible so you don't miss out on any other RB news, articles or discussion. In the meantime, you should follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook so you can keep plugged in even when the site is wonky. It's fun, honest!

Eagle eyed Twitter followers caught the below Linkin Park DLC announcement early, as a test of our new newsletter service accidentally posted the press release when we thought it would only get distributed internally. OOPS! So, yeah, hit us up on the above links and you too could get early warning about DLC announcements, DLC sales, interviews, events and more!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (Jan. 11):

• “Crawling”
• “In the End” X
• “Numb”
• “Somewhere I Belong”
• “Waiting for the End”
• “What I’ve Done” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system Jan. 12)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “Linkin Park Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points&#8482 per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$9.99, £4.99 UK, €7.99 EU (800 Microsoft Points, 1,000 Wii Points) for Linkin Park Pack 01

Bit of a slow week next week with only 3 tracks, but HMX is keeping to the newer music now after the long streak of classic rock. Next week's offering is a 3-pack from Stone Sour. I'm not real familiar with them but I've definitely heard Through Glass before.

Hey gang,

Next week's DLC will be a 3 pack from Stone Sour. You may know them as a side project for several members of Slipknot, but they've also been nominated for three Grammys. Should be a nice addition for folks looking for metal as well as those looking for more tracks from the 2000's. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (Jan. 18):

“Made of Scars”
“Say You’ll Haunt Me” X
“Through Glass”

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system Jan. 19)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “Stone Sour Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade
$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points, 550 Wii Points) for Stone Sour Pack 01

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

The bigger news that I almost missed at the bottom of the DLC announcement thread is that the Wii is going to lose RBN after next week. Yet another reason I advise people not to get RB on the Wii.

Next Tuesday, 1/18/2010, will also be the last scheduled batch of Rock Band Network songs brought over to the Wii. With the smaller online install base, limited demand for releases so far and the significant amount of work it takes for our producers and audio team to convert and process these additional tracks we’re no longer able to continue submitting RBN content to the Wii. Regular Wii DLC, and RBN releases for the 360 and PS3 will continue uninterrupted.

Some good RBN news this time, Harmonix has announced that RBN 2.0 will be released on February 15th, 2011. This will allow RBN songs to support keys, pro keys and harmonies. It will also mean that RBN releases after that date will no longer work with RB1/2, just like the regular RB DLC now.

Looks like we are going back to packs from the RB3 on-disc artists. Next week a 5-pack of David Bowie is coming. I'm not a huge fan but will probably grab a couple tracks, definitely Modern Love.

Hey gang,

It's been a long time coming, but we're finally revisiting one of the first artists that we ever released DLC for, the one and only David Bowie! "Space Oddity" was one of my favorite tracks in RB3, and next week brings 5 more amazing songs, with Pro Guitar / Bass upgrades for "Ziggy Stardust" and "Modern Love".

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (Jan. 25):

“Blue Jean”
“Fame”
“Modern Love” X
“Young Americans”
“Ziggy Stardust” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system Jan. 26)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “David Bowie Pack 02” on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$8.49, £4.39 UK, €6.59 EU (680 Microsoft Points, 850 Wii Points) for David Bowie Pack 02

Here's an early but unofficial DLC report for next week. According to Paste Magazine the full album London Calling by The Clash will be released on February 1st.

Also, just a reminder that the Country Track Pack 2 is hitting stores on February 1st as well.

EDIT: A couple of HMX folks have tweeted the London Calling article, so it looks like this is official.

Here's the official announcement. Note that Train in Vain, the last song on the album, is already available as DLC so it's not included. Also, if you buy the full album, 18 songs for $20 is a pretty good deal considering the usual $2/song price! If you think this is only a punk album, you might want to try a listen, as the sound/genre actually varies quite a bit from song to song.

DLC Week of 2/1 - The Clash's London Calling Full Album DLC!

Hey gang,

Announcing a little bit early today, as Past Magazine already let the cat out of the bag yesterday... all of The Clash's London Calling is coming to RB3 next week! A punk masterpiece in its entirety, with some choice Pro Guitar upgrades as well. This is probably HMXpope's favorite week of DLC ever, so track him down on the forums and share in his excitement. Enjoy!

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (Feb. 1):

• “London Calling” X
• “Brand New Cadillac”
• “Jimmy Jazz”
• “Hateful”
• “Rudie Can’t Fail” X
• “Spanish Bombs” X
• “The Right Profile”
• “Lost in the Supermarket”
• “Clampdown” X
• “The Guns of Brixton”
• “Wrong ‘Em Boyo”
• “Death or Glory”
• “Koka Kola”
• “The Card Cheat” X
• “Lover’s Rock”
• “Four Horsemen”
• “I’m Not Down”
• “Revolution Rock”

(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system Feb. 2)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “London Calling (Album)” on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

A new RB3 patch is out for the 360 and should be available for PS3 within 24 hours. This fixes a whole raft of issues that people have been complaining about (including the "missing DLC week" songs), and even adds some support back for the stage kit! Also, the plumbing for the upcoming RBN 2.0 songs is in this patch. The release notes are somewhat lengthy so just follow the link to check them out.

EDIT: Darnit, wrong thread, but it's sort of relevant due to the missing DLC fix.

Some more Bob Marley is coming next week. Right now I'm kind of "meh" about this since I got the Marley tracks I wanted from Legend and I don't recognize these titles, but I do need to give them a listen.

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system Feb. 9)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks and as “Bob Marley Pack 01” on Xbox 360,
