Like everyone is saying, something is up. I run a Barton at 200MHz , 3200+, 1 gig of Crucial pc3200, asus a7n8x-x and an eVGA 6800GT, and the game is butter smooth at 16x12, high settings, 60 FPS.

Far Cry runs incredibly smoother now compared to last week when I had a 9800 Pro in the rig.

Did you remove your old drivers? Do you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system?

I went into my display settings->advanced->geforce->performance and quality settings->Show advanced settings- then scrolled down and turned on Anisotropic Optimization ON.

Eureka! This was it...I turned on Anistropic Optimization, and now I'm running 1600x1200 High Quality with no slowdown, even when there is smoke or "heat haze". I'm not sure what this setting does, but obviously it affects this game big time. Thanks to all for the suggestions, I'm off to veg out with D3 now!!!

Dang, I didn't even know about this setting being a 6800 noob. Changed it, and got an immediate FPS performance increase in Doom-3 and I can't even see a visual difference.

Nice tip.. Now if I could get Farcry to run right with the 6800+DX9.0c and 61.77 drivers.. Artifacts ALL over the place on most levels...

Anyone know what would cause that other than farcry being buggy as hell?

Update-it appears that I spoke too soon. While the first time I played after changing this setting everything was fine, now it's back to being extremely choppy whenever I encounter a window, heat, fire, etc. Other than those times, the game is smooth as silk. The setting is still enabled. This sucks...any other suggestions?

Did you install the Crytek 1.2 patch?

Hello,

My first post.

I have a very similar machine as you do and have been having the same problems too.

P4 3.0ghz 800mhz
1 gig PC3200 Geil
eVGA 6800 GT
P4C800 Deluxe Motherboard

Everything is STOCK. nVidia drivers are at default settings - 61.77

When I run at the standard 12x7 at HIGH I was getting 43 avg FPS in DOOM 3. Pathetic comapared to all of the other scores. I'm going to make this short but basically I was having the same problems as you.

I reformatted, reinstalled XP.
Double checked IRQs, Drivers, BIOS, CHIPSET, Video Drivers. YOU NAME IT.

Finally, at about 2am this morning. I found another thread and change something that finally made a difference, at least for me.

In the BIOS - under the ADVANCED tab - THEN CHIPSET:

I changed PERFORMANCE ACCELLERATOR MODE to ENABLED
And also under CHIPSET I changed the GRAPHIC APERATURE SIZE from 64 to 128.
ALso, under ADVANCED - Under (forgot the name - 1st choice though - where you would overclock your cpu) Soft something. I change Turbo from AUTO to STANDARD.

Now, at 12x7 at HIGH I'm getting 69.8-70.2 consistently now.

Rebooted several times to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

I got my card at 3pm on Friday and have been struggling till very early Sunday morning to finally get what others have been getting with similar rigs.

I hope this works for you as i know how frustrating it can be.

I'm 37 and have been 'benchmarking' and 'maximizing' my rigs performance since the Q1 days and this is the first time I wasn't getting scores even close to what others were getting.

Best of luck to ya.

shadow quality bug with farcry.

you can set everything on high, even put ultra high with water effects.

but you have to set "shadow quality" on medium.

then all artifacts goes away....on my 6800gt and x800pro.

Ok, I picked up a BFG6800GT today, dropped it in, and the default scores in Doom3 were through the ROOF... I selected "Auto Overclock", then re-ran it, and the scores were way better.

I ran 3dMark2003 with it, scoring almost 12,000.

http://www.boredmofo.com/downloads/bfg6800marks.JPG

Look at that, average FPS at 1600x1200 is 67.4FPS with the BFG6800GT-OC!

Not sure what is up with your guys, I really have no clue, but thats definately not normal behaviour.. Bios settings?

I never saw the card you posted man.. But this one has TONS of copper, double fans, double heat pipes, and lights up BLUE with a Blue board! Sweeeeeeet looking.. Glad its not the stinky referenced fan. Which one did you get?

Rest of my system is:

Intel P4 3.4Ghz+
1024MB PC4000 CorsairXMS
BFG 6800GT OC
Audigy-2
160GB 8MB Cache ATA133
Asus P4S800D Motherboard
Chieftech Server Tower - 100% Aluminum (6 fans + side window)
Allied 450Watt Powersupply w/dual fans.

Got the BFG at Best Buy, the guy had to search for it, they aren't usually on the shelves.. Only 1 left there, was tempted to buy both and try to ebay one for a profit, but I already have $1300.00 in graphic cards sitting on my desk. Guy at Best Buy said they get 50+ people a day asking for the BFG cards because of the lifetime unlimited warranty.

The card

I liked to that yesterday in my thread. It appears you and I have the same card! Its pretty nice looking.

I was just curious about the rest of your rig, yours runs about 7-8fps faster than mine (1600x1200, high quality).

How high did you overclock the 6800GT?
