I just bought a new EVGA 9800GTX...and it won't fit in my f@cking case!

Case: Antec Sonata Solo (http://www.antec.com/us/produc...ails.php?ProdID=18500). Its a standard mid-tower ATX, same size as Sonata I, II, & III, plus every other mid-tower case I've ever seen.

The worst part is that even if I cut out the HDD bay or got a bigger case, it appears the fat-@ss cooler wouldn't fit between the motherboard's memory slots and SATA connectors! Motherboard is an Intel DX38BT (http://www.intel.com/products/...oard/DX38BT/index.htm). Again, standard ATX board with a fairly common chipset and layout.

WTF?!

Well, they are big cards. You should have checked first to see if they would fit in your case. Did you know the cards were 10.5" long? Same size as a 8800GTX?

And your link is broken.

Yes. 10.5 inches from bow to stern. I believe the 8800GT and 8800GTS are 9 inches. One positive is that the PCI-e connectors are on top. But I don't think that will help our OP here.

I have an EVGA 8800GT SSC. The 9800GTX is MUCH longer. So the GTX is not the same size as the 8800GT (or I would guess the 8800GTS).

Also, I did check the size before I bought it. The EVGA website and product PDF says it is 9" long!

PCIe connectors are fine, in fact they're much easier to get to than on the 8800GT.

You're right, the EVGA pdf is wrong on the length. I mentioned it to them on the phone today.

It took me weeks to find a case my wife would allow in the house... now I have to either get rid of her or find a new case she likes.

Wow, that's a typo. A big one. Sorry you have to go through this because of a stupid typo.
So you have 3 options:

Return the card without restocking fee (direct them to typo)
Get a bigger case
Make it fit.. (if possible)

Rather than changing out your case and motherboard, just cut out enough room in the HDD bay and look for a compatible replacement VGA cooler with smaller dimensions...

So is this card 10.5" like the 8800GTX or is it longer?

I used to have a full tower Chieftec case with windows everwhere and nice blowhole. It was big and red with blue LED that you could light the entire room with at night.

Each to their own but imo if you got it, flaunt it.

Granted the Sonata has a certain understated elegance about it but I like someone to walk into a room and go, "WTF is that" when they see my computer.
