I know the question has been asked several time, but not by me. I?m currently scrambling to get a replacement board for my fried DFI PA61 (Slot-1) motherboard to run a Pentium III 550E CPU. I was looking at three boards to get, Asus P3B-F, Asus P3V4X or Abit SH6, but I?m having no luck on the Asus and the SH6 cost about $140. When I?m done I?ll still have a Pentium III 550E and would of invested this money in to an outdated system/architect. My questions are:
A) What is a good/stable motherboard to support a Duron, Athlon or XP without all the options (RAID, Sound, Lan, etc.)? I want keep the board and processor close to the above price. Optional would be the ability to use SDRAM or DDR.
B) Will I see a big difference from Duron to Athlon of the same speed/FSB?
C) Will I see a big difference from a FSB of 200MHz to 266MHz?
D) I want to get a retail CPU. Will I have problems OCing the retail vers the OEM later?
I leaning towards a Duron 850, but don?t have a clue what motherboard. Please help!
*Board should be upgradeable to at least the XP Series
Thanks AMD GURUS. This will be my first time doing an AMD?be gentle!
