NEW BUILD ADVICE

Here is my shopping list for my 1st build attempt, comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

> ABIT 875P IC7-MAX3 - w/ P4 3.4C GHz chip
> Plextor PX 708A (DVD_RW) and Plextor 52x32x52 (CD-RW)
> 1 - Sony MPF920 Floppy drive
> 2 - Western Digital Raptor 74 G SATA drives
> 2 - 512 Mb Corsair Twinx1024-3200LLPro
> Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
> Nvidia 5950 Video Card (better Open GL ( I fly IL_2FB on-line)) (I know this will open a can of worms)

Looks good to me, only thing I would switch out is the motherboard...for 8 bucks more you get a few more things off this Abit IC7-G Max2. In addition to that they provide a nicer package, rounded cables, etc...all things you probably would have to spend more money on with the Intel board.

Question, will I have a conflict with the onboard sound and my Audigy 2 ZS?

Just make sure you turn the onboard sound off in the bios if you don't want it to conflict with your Audigy.

1st build..? lot of bling to be testing with your 1st time out..find someone's old comp disassemble/reassemble..if it fires up and runs then I'd say give a new 1st build a go. gl

One other question, is the memory compatible with the Mobo? Also cal I use DDR440?

If it were me, i would skip the Raid 0, because it more than doubles your chance of a failure, and provides only a small gain in performance. Besides, those raptors are very fast on their own. Further, take back the extra raptor and pick up a nice 160 gig WD 7200 rpm for storage and backups.

Check Abit's compatable memory list...but you should be fine with that Abit motherboard and your memory.
