New build, annoying problem

I built a new pc a few weeks ago and I've got this annoying problem which looks graphics card related? I recorded this 4 second video (random youtube vid) with an iphone because it doesn't capture it when I record the screen with software and it doesn't show up on print screens either.

Basically towards the end you can see a green/red line flashing, this keeps happening to me multiple times during the day in youtube videos, video files and even when going through pictures on the net. I've only played Assassin's Creed so far for about 12 hours and it hasn't happened in game.

I've tried things like reformatting, installing different drivers, reseating the graphics card, using a different hdmi cable and monitor port but it didn't fix it.

The build is as follows:
CPU: i5 4670K @ 4.1ghz
GPU: Asus GTX 670 Factory OC
Mobo: ASRock Z87 Extreme4
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600
PSU: Antec Neo Eco 620C Bronze Certified
Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212
Monitor: Asus MX239H 23in AH-IPS

Been doing some more troubleshooting.

The problem fixes itself temporarily when I reset the monitor via the menu, and then later on the same problem will happen even though I didn't change anything.

So it has to be a monitor problem, although I'm not sure if that would be the actual monitor or the power adapter?

Sorry, missed that bit. I would recommend a driver scrub, but if you've already done a full reformat that won't help. If you aren't having issues in games then it can't (or at least shouldn't) be hardware-related.

I guess the first step would be to test a different display. In the meantime I'll have a think...

I don't have another monitor to use but I'll try using a laptop with the monitor.

The problem starts happening randomly so it could be 5 minutes or 10 hours... I'll let you guys know later.

I did some research based on the video you provided and nearly everything has pointed to either a faulty card or a BIOS issue. You should still test the monitor first, but there are a couple of other steps you can take if that doesn't work.

The faulty card scenario seems a little unlikely given that the issues only pop up in light-use scenarios, at presumably low temps, and using both the integrated and discrete GPUs. However, you should download and run Uningine Valley at max just to be sure everything is kosher. You could also try manually downclocking the GPU and VRAM individually and seeing if that resolves the issue. Once you've tried all of this it'll be safe to assume the card is fine. I'm guessing it is.

Otherwise--and I'd like to stress that you should only do this once you've confirmed that neither the card nor the monitor is the issue--you could try flashing your BIOS. I'm always very wary of recommending this since it can sometimes do more harm than good, but in your case it may be worth the risk.

Hey.

Used the monitor with a laptop for a day and the glitch didn't come up, been using the pc again for 2 days and it hasn't happened either.

It's just a very annoying problem to troubleshoot because it happens at random and it doesn't come up with 3dmark/furmark/games.

I'll wait for the next driver for the gtx 670 and if it still happens I'll underclock the factory overclocked card, if it still happens I'll just RMA it I guess.

Have you examined the cable? Look to see if there are any dirty/flaky/bent pins etc. Or, if you have a spare, swap out the existing video cable and use a different one.

You shouldnt have bought the As* excuse me As*rock. If you had a ASUS we wouldn't be talking about this problem. IMO.

I can now confirm the problem is with the monitor as it just happened when the laptop was connected.

Also tried 3 different hdmi cables and 2 different hdmi ports and it didn't change anything.

Is it likely to be a problem with the monitor itself or the power adapter?
