New build--can't burn cds

Device manager lists the device as PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-118L SCSI CdRom Device.


It's an IDE drive, running Vista 32 Home
Mobo is a Gigabyte UD3P

Can't burn anything--reads/plays discs fine. Burning in iTunes kicks back an unknown error immediately.

Any ideas? I don't understand what the issue is.

Update: Swapped out the drive, still wasn't able to burn. So, Vista/mobo issue?

See if there are driver updates for whatever IDE controller your motherboard uses. Try a different brand of discs, and/or a different burning program, (I'd suggest the wonderful and free Imgburn (http://www.imgburn.com/).

I used the chipset drivers that came with the mobo--not sure the best place to acquire the latest updates? This? http://ee.giga-byte.com/produc...r/ga-ep45-ud3p_16.html

I can't seem to get to Gigabytes official site.

edit: It's an IDE instead of a SATA drive. I meant to get the SATA one originally. Wonder if there's a known issue with IDE optical drives on this board

update: Express install on the mobo driver disk was a Bad Idea: this copied raid drivers that caused a conflict (and why device listed as SCSI instead of IDE). Ripped out all the drivers, downloaded and installed latest chipset. Fixed.
