New build, old hard drive

First of all, sorry if this is a small problem, easily fixed by 90% of members here, but I'm stuck.

New build finished today (E8400, 4GB DDR2, Gigabyte Mobo, same stuff everyone is getting). I am using old hard drives, one (a Raptor) has Vista installed and is selected as the boot disk. But when I turn on the machine, it boots to Windows (takes forever) and then a blue screen that says far too much to read in the 3 seconds it's up, and goes back to Mobo's main screen.

I can boot in safe mode, but can't do much. Changed the voltage on the RAM too.

The old machine had a X64 4600+ (939) and a 7800GT.

I've tried all the drivers, and when I put the cd from Gigabyte in, I get nothing and it won't let me play it. Had to DL the drivers from their Web site. Nvidia disk started normally when inserted..

Should I reinstall vista and start fresh?

In a really bad mood right now ... and have to go to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure its the HD. Ive installed Vista on a SCSI with a manufacture date of 1998.

What I would do is boot into safe mode and look at the Problem Reports and Solutions. It is the administrative thing that tracks all of your blue screens, memory dumps, and all other Windows errors. Easiest way to open it is, Start Menu, then in the search box at the bottom of that menu type "problem". The box will pop up and you can follow the links from there.

Oh another thing...boot into safe mode WITH networking. When you look at the problems listed you have an option to have Windows search for a solution. Choose that. 7/10 times I find I get a solution.

If that doesnt help, reinstall.

Try a repair install after booting the Vista DVD. If that doesn't make the OS stable enough to fine tune, I'd isolate your important data, back it up, blast the drive, install Vista fresh.

Fresh install of Vista did the trick. Works great now.
