I have been out of the build game a few years and was looking to re-build my machine. I was looking for options for a new rig used for gaming and general use.

What options are out there today for a nice machine? AMD or Intel? Should I wait for something coming soon?

I plan to spend around $1,000 - $1,200. I am looking for a speedy machine (2-4gb RAM, higher end graphics card..etc.). I plan to use the same case which is ATX, though a new power supply is probably needed.

Thanks for any suggestions.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Gaming (WoW...TF2..etc) and general use(Office, general web publishing).

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread.

$1,000 - $1,200

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

US

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

Graphics = nVidia
Mobo = Abit or ASUS
Sound = Creative
HDD = Seagate

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Full tower ATX Case
Dell 20in Flat Panel Monitor

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Yes, read some threads on parts.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

No overclocking planned.

Looking for specs on a good gaming rig with a good graphics card and higher ram (2-4GB) to replace old P4 2.6 GHz machine.

Thank you.

Okay, can't ignore you when you followed the guidelines I posted, hehe.

soundcard, http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16829102007

Not good at picking soundcards, often onboard sound will do just fine though. I'd rather spend 60-100$ extra on the CPU and get a q6600 instead of the soundcard. Depending on wether you will use Vista 64x or not you could buy another 2gb of ram. You could kick up the PSU a notch to 520hx, especially when you do overclock later on. The HD is samsung, I prefer it over the seagate since it's less noisy and runs less hot. That's it.

dont get the P5K... Abit IP35-E or Gigabyte DS3R is a much better choice...

The DS3R is 6 phase power.

Just because you say so? I'd like to know what's wrong with the p5k? The abit suffers from tremendous vdroop. He might not be overclocking just yet but that might be important. DS3R or DS3L isn't a bad choice, but he did want Asus
