1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
I am a part time gamer. Like to be able to play whatever is good in FPS category. Also photoshop.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$1300 Canadian dollors
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada. Would like to buy from http://www.canadacomputers.com/ or http://www.tigerdirect.ca/ as they are both somewhat close to home.
4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/
5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
nVidia fanboy, just works with linux. Also intel processors.
6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Would like to use my 2 current Sata HD's in new build. To keep and copy to new. Both 500 gig SATA drives from 5 years ago.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No overclocking
8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?
Dell u2410 at native 1920x1200.
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.
In the next 2-3 weeks. GRUB posts 50/50 right now. Solution, don't turn off PC.
X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
Windows 7 64bit.
My goal is stability and linux. I play some steam games in windows, but use ubuntu for most day to day use of computer. Now that steam is out of beta for linux, i will use windows less. I mainly use windows for photoshop and photography. I just want a stable PC.
It would be nice if it has Firewire, never got around to it, but many home movies still to be captured.
