This is the first full computer I'm building since I don't remember when (p4 2.56ghz). My last system was mostly SCSI with a seagate x15 harddrive, so this is my first SATA computer. I will be using this for HD video editing, gaming, and running a 3D imaging program I use for work. I will overclock a bit. Budget is less than $2k.
What I'm buying:
CPU: Q6600
HSF: Thermalright Ultra-120 w/ Scythe S-Flex SFF21D 120mm fan
MOBO: Gigabyte P35-DS3P (need firewire and RAID)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 800
HD 1: WD Raptor 150GB (OS drive)
HD 2: 2x Seagate 7200.10 750GB in RAID 1 (Storage)
DVD: Samsung SH-203B
What I have:
EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS 640mb (already purchased)
Antec Sonata II (got it cheap)
Ultra Xfinity 600watt PS (got it for free) or Antec 450watt PS (comes with case)
Soundblaster X-Fi xtrememusic
Logitech Z-5450
Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse
Dell 2407
Windows XP or Vista... not sure which yet.
Questions:
1. Anyone have a recommendation for a cheaper, smaller CPU cooler?
2. Will I have trouble setting up a OS drive and a separate storage drive (2 HD in RAID1) using the mobo raid controller?
3: Am I missing anything?
