Hey guys and girls. I've been reading the forums and website for a long time but I just made this account to post this. I want to build my own gaming PC but am not sure what I should do.
I built a $1300 computer last summer for my family to use. I got some pretty good stuff. For my personal computer I am thinking of plundering that PC for parts. Here is what is in it.
Q6600 stock fan and not overclocked
evga nForce 650i ultra mobo
2x1GB OCZ Sli DDR2-800
8800GTS 320MB
OCZ StealthXStream 600w
Antec 900
What I am thinking of doing is taking the processor, motherboard, and graphics card. I do want to upgrade my graphics card. Main question, get a different graphics card now (I am thinking GTX 260) or wait for something new and live with the 8800GTS for now. I am going to be getting a 22-24" monitor at 1680x1050 or 1900x1200.
I am going to upgrade the PSU in order to get something with more amps to for future. Also, I am going to go read some reviews on cases. Have any recommendations on something that has good airflow for overclocking, looks great, and is quiet.
Question: Do I keep the old mobo in the old PC and get a lower end Q2D in it and get a new mobo for the new PC or migrate the old mobo over and get an AMD processor/motherboard in the old PC.
Here is what I am looking at getting so far:
My PC
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 500GB
RAM: Corsair XMS2 DHX TWIN2X4096
PSU: Corsair TX750W
Old PC:
MOBO: ASUS M2A-VM mATX AM2
PROC: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Those 5 things come to $450 before MIRs. My budget right now is around $1000 but might increase so I do have a bit of head room to upgrade the graphics and motherboard.
Thanks for any help you can provide. I am at a cross roads.
EDIT: Thought some of this stuff would be clear from the post, sorry.
Buying in Canada from ncix.com or newegg.ca if it goes official soon. I am trying to spend as little as possible. I have never used ATi or AMD before so am kind of hesitant to go with them.
I thought I posted but I guess I didn't. I am going to (try) to overclock the C2Q.
