I'm planning to build a new computer with these parts. I mainly watch movies and play games on my computer. I took most of the things from the Anandtech value system guide:

Thunderbird 1.2 ghz
Epox 8kha
512 mb Crucial DDR2100

GeForce 2
or (help me with this one)
Kyro 2

Fong Kai FK603
SBlive value
Altec Lansing ACS 54
IBM 60GXP 80gb
Generic DVD player

Tell me what you think and if there is any combinations i shouldn't get or if there is anything else i should get. Money is an important factor.

Replace the 1.2 GHZ processor with the 1.33 processor, I hear they are going for $108 now, might lower a bit more after the intel pricecut as well.

Agree with merkon and also make sure you include a HDD cooler to your GXP. Doesn't have to be high end.

The cooler isnt necessary. If anything necessary for a HDD, its a Silent Drive Encloseur. Get the 1.33 TBird. Get the GeForce2.

I think the 1.33ghz would be a better choice then the 1.2ghz ,bjc112. The 1.33 is only $10 over the 1.2 from newegg, and yields better results from the OCing stories I hear on the anandtech forums, assuming he will OC like *thinks hard* 98% of the people on the forums.

Looks good. I'd go with a GF2 Pro, it's only $50 more than the GTS/Kyro II and delivers very high performance. Seriously, I'd go to 1.4GHz, they can be had for $120, incredibly cheap. I'd get it. I personally think SB Live! is fine, but that's just my opinion. 8kha is a great board, but don't plan on ocing the fsb, if u go above 138MHz USB kicks out on all KT266 boards so.

Go for the 1.4Ghz t-bird. It's listed the cheapest for $107 on Pricewatch and Newegg has a listing for $113.

Geforce 2 Pro 64mb currently gives you the best bang for the buck in nvidia videocards.

Also the "IBM 60GXP 80gb" concerns me. Did IBM release that drive yet, last I knew the 60GXP topped-out at 60gb. Wetern Digital has an 80gb ATA-100 7200rpm drive though.

Ditch the motherboard for an ECS K7S5A. It goes for $65 + s/h. Might have onboard lan and audio depending on which version you land.

It's also the most stable, best performing socket A DDR mobo out there. There's a bunch on it in the hot deals and motherboard forum. It won't overclock, though, if you're into that.

Wow, $113 for 1.4ghz? Didn't see that at newegg.. I guess I haven't had my eyes open. That is good solution if you have a preatty good HSF.
