Quoted from the website:

Chassis Design: XPS systems are easy to open, upgrade and expand with the tool-less entry chassis. The chassis comes standard with, two front 2.0 USB ports, a front IEEE1394 port, and a headphone jack, which are easily accessible behind a fold-away door. Thermal control features include dedicated internal fans for the CPU, power supply and PCI & AGP cards. In addition, the power supply is in a separate compartment to minimize its effects on the system. The cable management system organizes multiple wires and allows for ease of system expansion.

Power Supply: The XPS is packed with 460W power supply that is located in a separate compartment along the bottom chassis to minimize the heat transferred to other critical components.

Cooling Systems: Two dedicated low profile fans quietly provide cooling to the power supply. Two additional chassis fans draw air across the CPU, keeping the system cool and quiet. One more fan drives air across the PCI and AGP cards to keep them cool while running.

This thing looks nice...

Call me crazy, but their power supply is on the bottom but is supposed to "minimize its effects on the system"...but doesn't hot air rise?

Doesn't look that good to me, anyone have pics of the inside? I want to see how they organize their wires.

Its not all parts that cost.

A lot of the cost goes towards maintenance and tech support for gamers. If Dell has to compete with Alienware and FalconNW, they'd have to offer upgraded tech support compared to regular systems.

I like it. I wouldn't buy it myself, but I would not hesitate to recommend it to someone that doesn't tinker with computers.

The base $2200 system has only 256mb of ram (2x128), 60gb, and only a 16xdvd drive. I guess they cut the cost just to fit the 9800. Nice system for those who don't want to build though.

All the pictures you could ever want are on that very page if you scroll down to where you see tabs:
Product Highlights / Product Views / Tech Specs.....

Click the tabs and look around. Not too shabby, really.... Pretty good for a Dell. And I have a Dimension tower right here....

256Mb would bring that thing to a crawl on UT2K3 or BF1942. It would need to use the Pagefile, i'd be mad if i spent that much money on that thing.

The higher up systems look nice, but all the configured systems comes with an Audigy2 SB, and only those crappy harmonkardon speakers, who configured these things? such a waste of a good sound card!

The case inside looks nice on the outside, but the inside is an awful mess + ugly.

Thats why you build your own!

If u must go with that dell i would cuztomize it with better speakers or downgrade that sound card, if they let you. And go with at least 512Mb of RAM. if u plan on gaming, high if you play SimCity4, Bf1942, and some others i can't think of that use tons of ram you might want more. Also can't hurt to have extra since in the future programs will use more, and more RAM.

well, it comes with a measly 256 megs of ram. i'd just go straight for the 2 gigs.

other then that it looks fine. i think i would still build my own and would be able to put togetehr a box liek that for about 500-600 bucks less then they charge, but if you want it already put togetehr and not to deal with having to do it, its the way to go.

as far as warranty goes, all i have to say is bleh @ the warranties. you will most likely upgrade to a new rig as this one will become absolete before it expires. if you have that much cash to pay right now i'm sure you'll have it later on as well (like me ) and will want to have the fastest, newest, best thing as soon as the one you have starts to stutter on medium options enabled.

It doesn't look anything special. All it looks like is a painted Precision 340 case. I'd recommend a Falcon or Alienware instead.

ok that had nothing to do with the conversation...

anyway, WAY too expensive.

I really dont think some of you people comprehend how expensive it is to maintain a top tier technical support. This is not the typical type of support you'd buy with Dimensions.

Example: One of our Gateway servers broke, and gateway sent in a support team, diagnosed to problem, replaced the mobo and procs, all within 6 hours.
