just as what's said in 99% of the new newegg refurb threads... they really aren't hot deals anymore... some not even warm. For one you're only geting a 15day warrantee and then all the accessories aren't included half the time. Back when the deals where actually worth getting... like you could buy a mobo have it be dead and after paying to ship it back you'd still be saving 20 dollars or more. I didn't care if I had recieved all my hardware but now, if it doesn't work and you have to return the part, after shipping costs you barely save any money and with some deals, you're paying more.

Don't get me wrong, Newegg is a great place to order parts from. Its where I get 90% of parts. People are just crazy for paying what they do on refurbs

Agreed, I think it's time to put all newegg refurb threads out to pasture. Other than friendlier CSRs this is no better than buying from dumpinggoods.com. Not hot, unless there is something specific that has at LEAST a 50% spread from current new price.

I have bought 3 refurb MB's from NE and NONE of them worked. I know they say they are not tested but to sell returns that have been sent back because they don't work as REFURB's in not an honest discription of a product! They are RETURNS not REFURBS. In talking to a rep while getting an RMA he admitted that over half of all Refurb sales are returned because they don't work. Newegg is a good place to buy new goods......only. IMHO

I don't think I'll be buying any refurb boards from them again. The last one I got had a loose cap in the antistatic bag and the board itself had a big discolored burned spot on it. There was no excuse for selling crap like that.

I"ve probably ordered over 30 parts from newegg which were refurbed over the past 2 years. Out of those 30 i've only had to return a floppy, cd-rw, 2 mobos and a proc which to me isn't bad at all considering how much I've saved in getting those 5 parts back in working order alone. Half of the mobos and none of the cdroms ever came w/ accessories but my close friends and family whom i build the computers for can live w/o a faceplace or a sound cable.

I've also noticed a bit of a price increasing trend w/ shipping and parts throughout Newegg so, DAMN YOU NEWEGG WITH YOUR EXTREME POPULARITY AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH LETS YOU CHARGE A BIT MORE THAN SOME OTHER ONLINE RETAILERS AND WHAT YOUR PREVIOUS PRICES ONCE WERE....

Yeah, as much as I love NewEgg, they're playing fast and loose with the definition of "Refurbished." I would think that to "refurbish" something would mean to have actively done something to improve the condition of an item, not just grab it and sell it. Oh well....

Where does everyone get the motherboard I/O shields (backplates) for these refurb boards that doesn't cost an arm & a leg. I was looking at an ASUS board and found a place on the net that wanted $8 for the backplate and of course every board needs a different backplate.

I agree. I bought a refurb Asus mobo and it turned on when it "feels" like it and turns off if it felt like it. The board had obvious residue from some liquid being poured on it, but NewEgg chose to sell it as a refurb and I bit the cost of $8 shipping and bought a new NF7-S instead. They were nice enough to refund me. But... I felt like I was paying them to check out the items that were retuned to them.

I always thought that refurbished meant factory checked/recondition/"refurbished" part. So they are misusing the term even if they have a disclamer.

NewEgg you are great but don't let it get to you head.

The reason he posted negative comments is because Newegg ALWAYS has refurb motherboards to sell.

I avoid them now because they most often DO NOT have any retail accessories, including I/O plate. They also often are shipped in a really small and thin box with NO padding... They are just asking for returns. I'd rather buy working parts from the FS/FT forum.

Here is the number to call to get a free ASUS backplane. I have the a7n8x-e deluxe and the backplane is not a standard so I called and they sent me one for free. I found this posted in a previous thread about NewEgg refurbs or white boxes.

Refurbished my ASS! These are customer returns and your likely to waste mucho time installing, testing and returning them before getting one that actually works 100%. My experience with Newegg refurb motherboards and video cards has been DOA, defective sound, defective NIC, defective IDE port, video checkering, defective SVideo out, etc. Don't waste your time, the $ savings are not worth the hassle.

I can't speak for the Motherboards, BUT I can say that I bought a 'Re-Furb' PowerColor 9800SE and it worked fine. Of course I figure that someone had bought it, tried to unlock the 'extra' 4 pipelines and when it didn't work, returned it as defective. At the time it was a very good price to pay for a 380/680 256bit 9800SE video card. All of the stuff was in the box. In instances like that, you have a good chance on the product NOT being defective.

A friend had bought a GF4 Ti4200 128mb for $60 (Abit) 'refurbed'. I think that these might have just been OEM 'Clearance' items. He had no problems with that one either, and I doubt you could find that card on the forums for that price (not 4 months ago at least, even today the going price seems to be $60).

I am really PISSED that Newegg seems to have made it impossible to see what the other reviewers 'said' about their 'refurbs'. Yes, I can see that XX people reviewed a product, but I can't see what they had to say.
