I'm new to Maine. There are mosquitoes everywhere, even during the day it seems as we're now into August. I'm getting bitten pretty much every time I go outside after 3-4pm, and I'm probably letting 1-2 of them in behind me before the screen door can close.

Is there anything I can do short of spraying the entire lot (I'm currently renting)? Are there any indoor options to keep them off of me should one get in? Or do you just deal with the bites until fall?

LOL, get used to it.

Make sure you have no standing water on your lot to keep the breading down in your area.

Bug spray and remove standing water if possible if you're outside there are candles u can buy. Other then that there isn't much u can do outside of getting a bat house

And for the ones that get inside? Can I replace my dining room light fixture with a bug zapper?

Maine is a terrible place for skeeters and this is a terrible year for skeeters, so it's doubly bad. A bat house or several would help. Other than that the usual, eliminate standing water, DEET everywhere, zappers, etc. You have to just accept that they have you outnumbered about 200 bajillion to one and they're gonna get you no matter what. If you're new to Maine and are complaining about the mosquitoes you must have missed black fly season. When they're bad they'll make you wish for mosquitoes instead. Nastiest critters on earth.

You need screening on windows & doors. If they are no-seeums, not mosquitoes, get no-seeum screening [finer mesh].

For outdoors, remove all standing water and spray yourself silly with a repellent with DEET. I like Unscented Backwoods Cutter. Think of it as your summer cologne.

You can also try one of those propane burning mosquito magnet machines for outdoors, but they are not effective if you live in a swampy or wet area.

Goes without saying, but try not to get bit if you can help it, the buggers may carry West Nile or EEE.

We have screens, they're just getting in when we open the door before the screen door can close. Maybe 1-2 a day, enough to be a pain in the ass.

No standing water on the property here, other than a pool. I can't do much about there being some plants, but that's about it. Grass is kept short.

I guess I'll just be staying inside at night

We did miss black fly season, but I was told that as close to the coast as we are, they're not too bad in the area.

Where in Maine are you?

1-2 inside a day is really not that bad, just swat their asses. Outside its just something that you have to live with.

Mosquito Magnets work well, but they are probably too big of an investment for a rental.

Another option is to spray, but then you have to worry about pets for a few days.
