Just wanted to say hello. Just built my first pc in 7 yrs. Was a mechanic for 5 years before just switching to selling cars. So if ya have any auto related questions feel free to ask. Looking to learn more about computers. May pursue a career in IT. Idk yet. Didn't see a spot for a welcome as most automotive forums I am used to have. Figured I would throw it up here and someone would point it in the right direction if need be. So... Hi.

Welcome. So you built your computer, and THEN came here? That's bass ackward.

This is my 3rd pc. Just the first in 7 years. I did my first when I was 13 then one 3 years later right when the 64bit came out and now this one. I had been silently browsing some forums until now. I had a question and will probably have more in the future. I already wanna do another pc this summer. A little more high end though.

I'd like to voir dire this new guy, being an expert on general automotive knowledge, can you tell me what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel-Air Chevrolet with a 327 cubic inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor?

55 never came with a 327. 327 wasn't introduced until the early 60s I believe. But if you want general timing on a 327 usually 10-12/13 initial and 36 total. Dont work on too many of those then ha ha. Worked on semi's most of my time.

The 327 didn't come out till '62, and it wasn't offered in a Bel-Air with a four-barrel carb 'til '64. However, in 1964 the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top dead center.

So the part I wrote about the 55 never coming with a 327 was right.

The part about the 327 being introduced in the early 60s was right.

General timing for a SBC in the early 60s would be about what I put as it is a higher compression engine then what would be about before unleaded fuel hit the market. But to set 4 degrees on a stock 327 wouldn't work too well. Lower initial timing is generally for higher compression engines. So I guess that one could be argued as I was not alive in 62 and do not know for sure off the top of my head.

But I do love My Cousin Vinnie. Btw how long does it take to cook grits?
:hmm:
