Due to the addiction that is World of Warcraft, I am building a second computer. So here is my question, what type of router should I use? my main use of the second computer is WoW, my computer gets used for just about everything on the net. After realizing that I needed a router, I did a little research, and found out I knew nothing, so I figure the pros out there could help me out. Currently I have old stuff to make a wired network, but I'm considering wireless. Would my wired network work just fine? If I go wireless, what type of router would best fit my needs? Would I really need a high end router, or would a mid range work? Thanks in advance for your replies.

If you can run the wires, run a wired network. As far as routers are concerned, any linksys, netgear, dlink, etc. will work fine. Check out hot deals and get whatever is on special.

any cheapo router will do the trick you can even get a nice netgear/linksys one that has wireless AND wired capatablities for 50 bucks. do wired for now and if you ever need wireless in the future you can go that route as well. other then thats its pretty damn easy to setup.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll take your advice and stick with wires for now. I guess the fancy routers are for people with computers on different floors and such.

DrBosk what if you decide to try wireless in the future? Try buy router with BOTH wired and wireless. I was lucky enough to have it when my friend with laptop came over and want to surf internet wirelessly.

I'd prefer linksys. My last few routers were dlink, linksys... you get variable results with each..but, ever since I started using an IP phone at home... I found certain models of dlink wouldn't work with it. The linksys works fine tho. The dlink..even with the phone set to use the DMZ... still wouldn't work... it was a bitch. Worked instantly as soon as I plugged in the linksys. The dlink was a 714P+. I have a wireless G model now.

All wireless routers also have jacks to use the wired. I'd get a wireless router (probably NetGear or LinkSys) and then you can use it either way.
