I thought there was something passed that made it so phone companies couldn't sell phones that are restricted to one network anymore, or am I dreaming?

i dont care....cingular sucks everywhere
Fixed.
I love their dropped calls commercials. All my friends who have Cingular (in NY and Chicago) say they get terrible service. Of course Cingular has the fewest dropped calls; it is hard to drop calls when you can't make one to begin with.
I get excellent coverage here.

Aha, I found it.
Unlocking Cellphones Legal - Determined to be Business Motivated not Copyright Motivated
Pretty much says we can unlock any phone we want, but that begs the question if you cannot unlock it yourself couldn't someone theoretically bring charges against Apple/Cingular after they purchase the phone? Saying that they're unlawfully forcing them to maintain contracts with them in order to use their phone, and you would like to unlock it to use on another network?
Obviously IANAL
