Assuming the 2nd computer isn't DOA as well

Depends on how many other customers are waiting on a BCM module. If the working parts don't come from the factory in time the one or two dead modules that the dealers keep sending back and the parts supplier keeps sending out will make their way back to you.

It's the circle of life.

Jeep's I2R team expedited one out to my service center; the BCM is getting installed tomorrow. Hopefully it fixes some issues! Got a 200 as a loaner in the meantime. Have not heard back from the third-party arbitrator yet. If the BCM does what I hope it will do, and with winter coming up again, I may just keep it until next year when what I owe matches KBB value & do a straight swap for something else. Right now I have my eye on the redesigned GMC Acadia. What bugs me is that I still really like my Renegade, I just have trust issues with it

Side note, I stopped in Moab the other day and saw a TON of Renegades. They were pretty much all Trailhawks, which are now available in a bunch of colors (previously was only a slate blue, which I really liked), but it still annoys me that they're only available in automatic! Also oddly enough, saw plenty of 2017 Kia Sportages. I've only seen one or two in CT but probably saw a dozen down there. It looks an awful lot like a 2006-era Subaru Tribeca, only smaller. I need to go test-drive the updated design one of these days...

Ended up renting a modded Wrangler for the day & tooling around the desert for awhile. Would have liked to have seen how well my Renegade would have done, but the Rubicon had 35's & a lift kit, lockers, etc. and there were some tricky parts on the trail even with that stuff loaded on. It was a blast tho, sad there are no legal public trails in CT! Also sad I didn't have more time to stay, I could have spent weeks there, so much fun stuff to do!

Another side note, rented a V6 Mustang for my time out west (turned out to be cheaper than a sedan!). Pretty fun, such a difference with IRS. Almost drove as nice & tight as my previous '13 Civic, but with more power of course. I definitely prefer to the 4-cylinder turbo tho...the 6 had plenty of power for buzzing around, but I've driven the turbo 4 a couple times & really had a blast with it (although I preferred the auto to the stick on the turbo, haven't tried the V8 yet tho!). The good news is that it convinced my wife that it was a viable machine, so I have WAF for a 'stang trade-in if desired

If you liked the v6 you will love the 5.0. Do it......

I haven't driven the v6 with the indy rear yet but did find a 2012 v6 stang to be a great drive too. If I really needed to keep the money and the realistic side of my brain was working a V6 stang is really all I would need 99% of the time.

Having the SO give it the thumbs up is huge.

Yeah, aside from the price increase, the only real catch is that I liked the 4-cylinder turbo a lot more in auto than stick (I'm sure it'd be the other way around with the 5.0). But I sit in traffic between 1 to 2 hours a day, 6 days a week, so automatic is really really nice, especially since they now offer TACC on the new Mustangs.

My Renegade won't take the BCM. It's functional (unlike the last BCM replacement, which was DOA), but it won't map to my car. Looks like I'm in the loaner for another week

Lol. Sounds more like a donated organ than cold, hard mathematical computation device. Who knew cars could have immune responses.

Where did you rent the mustang from? I have some vacation time coming up soon and was thinking of taking a road trip (or maybe flying) out west.

Avis. See if your insurance offers discounts (mine knocked like $100 off). It was automatic, but it had leather!

Took it home with BCM #4. A few glitches here & there, but nothing major. Sometimes it goes a month between major failures though, so it's a waiting game. BCM history:

1. Factory stock
2. DOA
3. Wouldn't mate
4. Just installed

Supposedly it's installed...I picked it up after their techs had gone home, and the paperwork only mentions #3, the one that wouldn't mate, nothing about a replacement. I'll call Monday to see if they can provide paperwork that they did, in fact, install a full replacement BCM & not just put #1 back in again.

Stopped by a GMC dealership. Checked out the Terrain & Acadia. Oddly, I did not fit well in the larger Acadia SUV. Checked out both a used '15 and what I think was the newer redesigned model. The seat stopped going back before I was comfortable...it gave me that cramped feeling like when you're in sardine-class on an airliner (I have long legs). That made it an automatic "no". Surprisingly the smaller Terrain was a more comfortable fit, but the ergonomics were kinda weird. Oh yeah, and the Acadia drove like a truck. I have to say, hats off to Dodge on the Durango because it drove amazingly well for being such a big car.

How are you not lemon-law'd yet?

How are you not lemon-law'd yet?

3-step process:

1. Requested Chrysler Corporate buyback (took over a month - denied; would have been the easiest route)
2. Currently requesting 3rd-party arbitration (they review the buyback investigation)
3. If that doesn't pan out, snag an attorney & go the lemon-law route

Alternatively, if the new BCM holds up, I can just wait another 6 months for depreciation to hit KBB value & do a straight trade-in, no legalese required. Also, not planning on getting another FCA product at this point, so even if the third-party arbitrator offers a credit, I think I'm only willing to take a refund. Feel burned by the company. Again, I'm sure all big car companies would act exactly the same way & firewall you from replacing your car, but on a first-year car, you'd think they'd try to engender more goodwill. They've lost my business.

Yeah but isn't the depreciation hit MUCH more than a lawyer would cost? It is a non-Wrangler Jeep after all.

If I take a buyout at KBB right now, I'll still owe a few thousand on it (vs. just waiting until next year when I've paid it down to the point where what I owe matches market value), which is why I tried talking Jeep Corporate into a buyback at the original price. The risk of going with lemon-law first is that the court will rule in my favor, but will only have Jeep cut me a check for market value rather than original price paid. Sometimes they do full price, but not always, so it's a dice roll. Right now, I'm working with Jeep's third-party arbitration system to review the case. One of four things will happen: they'll deny it, like Jeep did; they'll approve it & give me full credit for an FCA swap; they'll approve it & give me original price paid; or they'll approve it & give me market value for the car. Now that I'm going on 2 months fighting Jeep on this, I am no longer interested in Chrysler credit, particularly since I've test-driven several more Dodges (Charger, Durango, etc.) & hate the 8 & 9-speed transmission feel on all of them.

I don't know what I would replace it with at this point; I really like the car as a car (minus the glitches). I was thinking about an Acadia, but I don't fit very well in them, unfortunately. A Mustang would be fun, but winters would be terrible. Been looking at a lot of used cars too. Trying to talk my wife into a Sportsmobile as well

You might like the Taurus SHO. Fast and handles winter pretty well for a car. It's partial AWD.

My buddy has one, it's pretty beefy!

I did like the Charger, aside from the transmission...still had the lag issue tho, which irks me quite a bit. I don't like a delay when I need to punch it, and it has to downshift through all of those gears to get to the one with the powerband to move it. I'm also not set on new anymore, the Renegade just happened to be a first-year model, so it wasn't available used yet. May also lease again, we'll see. I just learned about one-pay lease, where you pay ahead & can save a few grand over the course of the lease, which is pretty cool - more money up-front, but cheaper over the long-term. There have been a lot of really appealing 2-year leases advertised lately as well, plus some decent 3-year offers. My buddy got a brand-new Civic for $3k down & $79/mo with 10k miles a year for 3 years. Absolutely bonkers. It's a base model, but even those have backup cameras, Bluetooth, etc. these days.

So many options.

Chargers are leasing around $300.- with no money down. Considering how FCA has treated you I doubt that is appealing..... So how about $3k cash back and 0% interest on a Caddy ATS? My buddy has one and they are worth a look. I really like the way it handles.

Kaido, Have you looked at ford Edge at all? Might be out of the budget for brand new, but lightly used they aren't too bad .. and they are damn nice. Ford's AWD system is supposed to be decently good, and car has lots of room for tall people. Good legroom and headroom front & back. The one we picked up is a 2010 with the base engine (3.5L v6, NA). Its no corvette, but its quite a bit quicker than my 08 Forester. Woman has been driving it the last couple weeks, we will go for a 250 mile road trip Labor day to give it a real highway test, but thus far its been a lot better than we had expected.

Glitches are back. Locked the car yesterday, started walking away, alarm did the single BEEEEEEEEEEP for no reason. Yet another minor heart attack courtesy of FCA

Because I'm on my 4th BCM, FCA has re-opened the case & may have a solution for me by Monday. Even though I don't want another FCA car, if they offer me full credit & I can simply swap out into something hassle-free, I may do it. All depends on what my options are!

Again, something that really bugs me is how much I like the car lol...I've been swinging by different dealerships for test-drives & I haven't found anything I really like as much. I can possibly swap into another one, but I hate the 9-speed transmission (lag & hiccups) & I'd rather not drive stick because I'm currently averaging 1.5 to 2.0 hours of commute daily due to traffic conditions.

I'm not a Cadillac guy whatsoever (they're great, I'm just very plain-jane when it comes to cars haha), but I did check them out at a local GMC/Cadillac dealer when I was looking at the Acadia the other day. They had a spiffy new CT6 on the lot when I walked in...very nice!

I like the idea of the Charger, but the lag kills me. The Durango felt quicker (MUCH quicker) off the line & also had a quicker throttle response (the Charger had a couple-second delay before the power came on when I was on the highway & punched it...sure it came on strong, but there was that initial blip before it did, it bugs me so much lol).

My goal with the Jeep was to buy a car that (1) would get me through winter hassle-free, and (2) that I could keep a loooooooong time (10 to 15+ years). Due to the glitches, I don't plan on keeping it longer than I absolutely have to. I'm sure a 2016/2017 replacement would be just fine, but I'm turned off onto the 8 & 9-speed transmissions that FCA offers, and FCA's general quality issues & unhelpful corporate customer service.

Where's Elio when you need them? lol

I don't know if you've driven the new Foresters (my wife has a '15 with a CVT), but they are crazy quick! I didn't even bother test-driving a turbo Forester because it was so fast. No headaches with it either, I have no doubt it will last us to 200k miles easily. Really solid machine.

My buddy got an Edge a few years ago, but I have not checked out the redesigned model (I think it was redesigned in 2015?). I was eyeballing the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, so I may have to check out the Edge as well. One feature I really want is TACC; my wife's Forester has EyeSight (the one big feature we sprung for) & it's absolutely glorious on the highway. We take her car on all of our family trips. It's almost as good as a self-driving car...all you have to do is babysit the wheel. You can literally never touch the gas or brake the whole way on the highway once you set the adaptive cruise control...it reacts faster than I do to getting cut off & people slowing down (or speeding up) & makes variable traffic speeds painless. Really takes the stress out of long drives! Anyway, the last model I checked out was my buddy's Ford Escape, which was a little narrow for me & the sloping interior threw me off a little bit. I'll have to sit in one of the new Edges & go for a test-drive to see if I like it, thanks for the suggestion! The 2016 Edge Sport AWD looks pretty nice...granted, I could buy a pair of manual Renegades for the same price

I simply cannot believe that Jeep hasn't just bought this out (at full price even) by this point. The amount of bad press that you could give them alone (especially if you brought in some of the media) could cost them far more, not to mention the possible loss of a future customer. You're handling this much better than I would at this point.

I tried not to flip out on the reps TOO much, but I made it abundantly clear this wasn't an acceptable vehicle for my family. It's been towed multiple times now due to being 100% dead. Stuck in the parking lot with a stuck pushbutton parking brake. All kinds of dumb stuff. But there's some sort of threshold they have to meet before they authorize it in-house, I think. Yesterday was the first time that the Jeep Corporate rep had said they are going to look into extending a Chrysler Care solution for my situation due to the issue history & time in the shop.

I could easily lambaste them to the media. I've documented 95% of the issues on video. I could easily submit a video compilation & article on the failure of computers in automobiles to a site like Engadget & get 100k views in no time. I mean, this car is electronics EVERYTHING...there isn't even an emergency parking brake lever, it's just an electronic pushbutton! When it was going haywire I think the second time, the tow truck driver had no clue how to get it on the truck with the parking brake stuck, even after we unplugged the battery (we finally reset it enough that it would only lock every 10 seconds or something, so we were able to inch it up the truck).

What kills me is (1) I really like the design of the car itself, and (2) most other Renegades seem to be absolutely fine. There's probably a stray wire or something somewhere that has frayed onto the metal body & is causing everything to go bonkers once in awhile. I dunno. I knew it was a diceroll buying one & I lost this time for sure

In regards to an FCA product this is the funniest thing I've read all week.

I've had a history of issues with every Dodge product I've owned (Dakota, Caravan, etc.). Really poor quality control on every single vehicle.

I really was hoping to just get a car loan, snag a nice reliable AWD car, and keep it for ages. Now I've wasted nearly a year of payments on a junker that will probably cost me to get out of. Arg!
