i just purchased an Asrock K7VM4 which is an mATX board based on the KM400 chipset. I decided to replace my current board because it was time to upgrade the family computer which was an old Celeron, so I pulled a switcheroo. The new mobo would go into my machine, while the Gigabyte GA-7DX goes into the family pc with a Duron I purchased.
I have to say I'm slightly disappointed with the performance here. The AMD 761 performed on par with the old VIA KT266 back in the day. Since then, we've seen a KT266A, KT333, KT400 and some newer models. I understand the board is designated a KM400 (and is thus a budget board, paid $56) however I never thought it would perform on par with a chipset so many generations behind. I did a 3dmark2001 test, and the km400 spit out about 6400 which is a couple of hundred points below the AMD 761.
Had I'd known this I would have paid an extra $16 and opted for the Shuttle Nforce mATX board.
Anyone have any experience with the KM400 -possibly some tweaks?
Thanks in advance
