New MOBO and Win2K

I am wanting to upgrade my machine with a new mobo and CPU. I am running Win2K. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of or should It be able to plug and play (pray) like Win98. I really don't want to start over. Thanks.

If your changing boards, and theres no integrated stuff on either of the boards.. you probably wont have any problems, tho it is better to reformat.
if your changing chipsets, and dont reformat, your just asking for trouble. i changed from BX to via... my system booted and all, but things were just really qurkey, which all cleared up when i reformated.
spend a couple hours and do it right, it will be worth all the frustration that will be saved.

When I upgraded from an ABit BE6-2 to my KK266, I didn't reformatt at first..there were no problems, but I started to get them and decided it'd be better to just reformatt.

save yourself the time and reformatt first.

Both chip sets are via. I am going from an FIC sd-11 to a MSI K7 pro2A. I will not use the integrated audio. Does this sound like an issue? I don't mind the reformat, it's just I got a ton of apps I don't want to reinstall.

If you are changing chipset model and manufacturer, ie going from an Intel BX chipset to a VIA KT133A, it's probably a very good idea to have everything backed up and be prepared for a format. A lot of the time Win2K is not able to handle the change in IDE Controllers, and so will not boot.

It's also usually a good idea to do a format if you have gone without one for quite a while.
