Current GPU: 980Ti but have plans to buy a 2080Ti

my current monitor is 4 years old and currently in the market for a new one. Below are links to different monitors I have in mind to buy but need help selecting. Anyone own or experienced with any of the below? I know some of them have Free sync vs some have G sync but if I were to get a free sync monitor, does this mean I will not be able to sync frame rates with my Nvidia card and suffer with screen tear? Please advise as all perspectives are welcome..

don't think its been released yet but its a consideration - https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG35VQ/

I like the RGB lighting on it as this is one of the free sync - https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-Strix-XG35VQ/

considering this one but rez is lower - https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-STRIX-XG32VQR/

this one is nice as well - http://us.aoc.com/en/gaming/products/ag352ucg6

once again all perspectives are welcome. Thank you all.

The first one has been delayed indefinitely it seems. As for Freesync versus Gsync, the newest nvidia drivers support frame rate syncing on Freesync monitors now. I'm going to post a link to my current monitor seeing as how I just recently went through the buying process, and I feel it ticks all of the boxes. Read the reviews if you're serious, some of the reviewers mention using nvidia cards with the newest drivers, and how to update the firmware on the monitor itself.

You have to decide between widescreen, 4k, and all manner of different specs so it can be tough to chose these days.

Thank you for your response.. I do know I want ultra wide, 34 or 38 and more than 100Hz refresh rate..

I took your advice and read some of the comments...

"The monitor itself, looks amazing. I can confirm this thing definitely runs at 144hz but for some reason I could not get the NVIDIA Display Panel to play ball, going through Windows display settings I was able to achieve this. "

"If you can afford it, get it. It’s awesome. I use a 2080ti and the freesync is compatible with g sync, although I had to update the monitor driver before it would work. Colors are spectacular and comming from a 1440p 144hz monitor the resolution seemed noticeably better. I certainly recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade, for nvidia and Radeon users alike"

"Now that freesync works with Nvidia cards this monitor is hands down the best ultrawide gaming monitor on the market. at least in Feb 2019. Comes precalibrated with color chart to show you how well your monitor did. Its slightly expensive but worth it."

"I've owned the 34GK950F for a few months now and I'm very impressed with it. Originally I had it paired with a Vega 64, but recently switched over to a 2080 Ti now that Nvidia is offering G-Sync compatibility with FreeSync monitors. I've had zero issues with the G-Sync compatibility, everything works just like it did with the Vega."

and thanks for the link to your monitor, I do like that one and will consider it but the price of the one below is grabbing my attention and I wonder if it will be G Sync compatible..

The one you linked to is Freesync and not Gsync, but not that big a deal anymore with the new nvidia drivers. The main difference I see is that it is a VA panel versus an IPS on the one I linked to, which probably means less accurate color. Also the peak brightness is a bit lower.

Yes, I'm rollin IPS.. I don't want a TN nor MVA/VA. My current Monitor is a IPS and my 55 inch TV is IPS and want to stick with that panel.. however I thought I would share this link with you.. over 400 Free Sync monitors were tested and only 15 passed GSync compatibility..

https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-announces-a-new-game-bundle-gpu-driver-and-more-g-sync-compatible-monitors/

so based on that link not all Free Syncs will work with a Green card..

Yes I've seen that list, and the general consensus on these forums has been to try it anyway, as it usually still works.

how long will that be you think?

Maybe by the end of the year? I'm really just guessing here. They delayed the release of the upgraded (4K) version of my panel (1440p 144hz 27") by around a year. And when they did release it it's like $1200+ so basically double what I paid for my current monitor.

I might just wait until they release the HDR version of my current monitor. Razer has one but I don't think it's for sale yet. And I won't buy a razer product that isn't a mouse or pad.

This is still a popular choice despite being a bit older nowadays:

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Alienwa...la-568385710290&ref=&adgrpid=67183599252&th=1

I second that! its a good monitor, if you can get one with a decent panel, I had to return 2 of them due to issues where the right side of the monitor was noticeable warmer than the left. OP do you have a Microcenter near by? also take a look at the Acer X34P has the same panel as the Alienware, this is the one I use currently (See below) it strikes the right balance of resolution, features, size etc.

But here is the Alienware that I had briefly, look how much warmer the right side of the screen was, I got 3 of them in a row like this, even returned the first Acer. 3 Monitors with the same AU Optronics panel (2 Dell's and 1 Acer) before getting one without the problem.

Current setup with the Acer, once you go 21:9 you don't go back.

I personally disagree, my brother has a 21:9 and I used it for several weeks before deciding on my new monitor purchase and I was perfectly happy to go with a 16:9 1440p panel.

If I had a single monitor I might feel different I guess, but with a 43" 4k and a 27" 1440p, I really don't see any reason why i'd want an ultrawide for my use-cases.

Obviously many people DO like ultrawides, but it's far from "once you go 21:9 you don't go back", at least for me.

I suppose what I mean, is that in general a bigger screen is preferred by most, but particularly 21:9 really gives you great FOV in games, and that's why I personally wont go back to 16:9. I used to have an Acer XB271HU, great monitor! but I have a condition that has caused me vision loss, and I found myself squinting at it, so I replaced it with the 34 inch, suffice it to say I can see it a lot better.

It's nice but there are a few downsides. Some games don't support those aspect ratios and you will need more GPU horsepower over standard 1440p.

This is true, especially competitive games don't like to allow 21:9 players to have an advantage so they lock the FOV.

The only game that I play that does not support it yet, is the new Devil May Cry 5. I play "Apex Legends, Titanfall 2, GTA5, Far Cry 5, Resident Evil 2, Forza Horizons, Call of Duty Black Ops 4, Battlefield 1 and 5, Trials Rising, Tomb Raider" and they all support it, all run great on my 2080 Ti.

Yeah almost all newer games do, it's the older ones that you run into issues usually. And yeah when you got a 2080 ti there's not really going to be a problem with fps sub-4k.
