Happen to know where this SSD lies in OCZ's line up? That 5 year warranty makes me think it's above the Vertex, but the other part of me thinks this replaces their Petrol, Octane lineup.

This will take over for Vertex 4

With the new Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller that OCZ has developed.

Been watching this one for a while. Owned/own many, many OCZ drives without a single issue, ever.
Was a day 1 adopter of the Vertex 3's and never had an issue. That said, I'm glad I won't be an early beta tester for these.
I think they'll do we'll, but I hope not too well! I just dropped for 3 new 840 Pros this weekend. Ouch, lol. Dang technology.

Will be keeping my eye out for this. Still rocking the Vertex 2 without issue. I was planning on upgrading ot the 840 Pro but now holding off from what I've read online.

Anyone know much about the imaging software that comes with it?

I will be checking this out ASAP. Am looking for a new SSD. Samsung Pro 840, Plextor M5 Pro, and this one are contenders.

I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. OCZ stock has fallen through the floor that past few months, and who knows how badly they rushed this thing to market before it was ready, as a hail mary to try to save the company. The best anyone buying one of these can hope for is that the hardware is okay and OCZ manages to work the bugs out of the firmware within 3 months. But worst case is significantly bleaker than that (bad hardware, OCZ goes out of business, warranties are not honored, etc.)

I've never had an issue w/ my Vertex 3 since day one, too!

The other OCZ's, however...

And? Apple has dropped 20% in the last three months. Bet you have some Apple product still in hand.

Cisco is down 15% from a two year high. Still, they have about a 40% share as of earlier this year.

Stock price has nothing to do with product performance.

But OCZ has dropped nearly 90% in less than a year. What people are referring to is the fact that OCZ's financial performance has not been that great lately and if that course doesn't change, there is a chance that OCZ will go bankrupt. That most likely means no more warranty or firmware updates.

Sure that is the worst case scenario but IMO there are better options anyway.

While true, it has nothing to do with it`s technical merits.
Who said it did? OCZ have a proven track record in releasing products far too earlier and fixing all of the bugs or software incompatibilities with future updates.

If the company is on the financial brink, then logically there may have been additional pressure to get the product out of the door. Knowing the company is still going to be around in 6 months time is essential in this case.

OCZ haters are like religious fanatics.

No amount of common sense arguments will cause them to change opinion.

Opposite- OCZ haters will actively search out information that supports their opinion.

Usually if you look for something hard enough you'll probably find it.

It's not worth the effort to re-educated biased idiots.

But,

+1!

Glad you took effort to post what I was thinking. I agree.

Gee, way to be civil there. Bankruptcy concerns are a very real issue. The fact that you will still blindly defend them shows who's really the biased one here.

I don't hate OCZ. I was going to give their Vertex 4s a shot (had an old thread where I asked for experiences from real owners tho that one ended with a bunch of people who never owned the drive telling me how crappy it is.) I passed up on the recent $299 deal precisely because these BK issues can be a very real problem.

Not likely. If anything, that would be even further from the truth as they can`t afford some debacle like that. Chances are it`s been baked in long enough to work out any mass bugs.

Logic would suggest they`re not going to shoot themselves in the foot by launching something that`a a POS that will all but guarantee their complete downfall.

As far as who? JW did by rolling that comment into the rest of his post. Did you read it?

My post has nothing to do with fanboyism, where as it seems yours may. I`m simply stating that stock performance shouldn`t have a part in what I thought was a technical discussion. Who cares if they`re in the crapper. If they have a good product, they have a good product (granted, yet to be tested).

I thought it was a discussion about a new product from OCZ. Anyone with any sense considering buying a product considers the reputation and future prospects of the company that manufactures the product and supports the product. So to answer your question, any rational prospective buyer of the OCZ Vector cares.

Something tells me you don't go and look at Intel's or AMD's quarterly reports before making a purchase decision.

If Intel's or AMD's stock price had dropped 90% recently, I would certainly factor that into any purchase decision.

You seem to be missing the point that OCZ as a company is in serious trouble right now. It is a very big deal for the stock price to drop 90% and to not release financial statements because of serious accounting issues. It does not compare to having a 10% or 20% drop in stock price due to market fluctuations. OCZ is in serious risk of disappearing.
