i just signed up for my firstnamelastname@gmail.com about 2 years ago. i doubt anyone has even tried to get it since either LOL. i guess thats ONE good thing about my name, nobody ever gets it mixed up with someone else.

and i just got my fnln@outlook.com too!

i do like the non invasive text ads on the right too. its a good tradeoff for a free service.

Please tell me you're not actually still using IE6 yourself.

Not as bad, but I still use IE8 because I tried upgrading ot IE9 once and it kept BSODing my computer. Same with iTunes. Think it's my turd video card --- last one, also an AMD, kept BSODing if I had the desktop Aero theme on.

Won't go back to hotmail / outlook.com until it handles conversations / labels / filters as well as Gmail. Also, my account is one of many that doesn't receive mail from forum registrations and other legitimate sources. The messages don't go to the Junk folder. They just don't arrive at all.

FUCK HOTMAIL. FUCK FUCK FUCK.

Make sure if you set up a new account that you choose a birthdate for an age older than 18. I set up an account for my 2yo daughter, so she could have firstnamelastname@outlook.com when she gets older, and when I logged into it it was restricted.

Their only options to open it up is to fax paperwork, mail paperwork, or confirm with a credit card (which costs .50 and goes to charity). Not a big deal, but more of a pain in the ass than I was expecting.

I made the switch for my main email from google a month ago for a variety of reasons, most of which have to do with google's ever increasing intrusiveness. That said, I like it. I like that I can set up aliases within my main account, so I dont have to log into different email accounts for things. On my phone its fine, I use the stock android email app and set it up as an exchange account for push.

So far I like it.

Am I the only one who uses a 7 year old phone and PC and doesn't have a single Google service or account (including YouTube), no social media, or messaging programs? Never used Android Apple or Linux? Doesn't own a laptop, tablet, or "portable device" and still uses a CRT? Thinks that all this newfangled touch shit is retarded as hell and Win8 is by far the worst thing ever created (worse than WinME). Doesn't own a TV, dislikes "widescreen" (or rather regular screen chopped off), and laughs at the pathetic "HD" resolution that is 1/2 the resolution and lower quality than my ancient glass tube?

I still remember when things were simple easy to use/understand and could do anything you wanted/needed. Now its all ads in your face stupid complicated shit that doesn't make sense and rarely works. Nothing is compatible with anything else and I feel like the PC died years ago.

Who uses their name in their email? The only reason I have one is for things like online shopping. I rarely check it more than once a month. Why does everybody think its cool to post their entire life online, selling their mind body and soul to anybody and anything that wanders by?

Soon you guys start taking computer implants and let the government or Google or whoever control you. I will fight to the death.

muhahaha. I think my name is globally unique. I've never run across it anywhere.
My last name is so damn common in the country where my family is from that some relatives had to change their last name because the factory said they had too many people working there with that last name. In one of my college classes, the professor was taking attendance and three people (out of a class of 28) said "here." He then said my first and last name; me and one other person said "here."

On the negative side of having a great email address, everyone thinks they have the address as well. I get a ton of email miss-delivered to me. I posted about how I got on a right-wing family's email list. I replied back and hilarity ensued: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=314937

Of course not, it makes me EliteRetard.
Well partially anyway, there's a lot more that goes into being the EliteRetard.
I am the only one who has (or ever will?) made it thus far, and standing outside the fetid pool has its advantages.
You just keep happy splashing in the muck like everybody else.

you sound like my old boss who works on technology for a living, giving presentations every year desperately trying to keep his clients on tape recordings so he doesnt have to learn new things like solid state media.

Whats wrong with SSDs?
When I can get a new 1TB SSD for $25 like my last HDD I'll upgrade.
Actually, since they're ~10 times faster I'd pay $250.

Why does everybody think its cool to post their entire life online

seems you've just done exactly that :awe:

also widescreen isn't regular screen chopped off, it's regular screen with more content on the sides.

maybe for sd material a CRT tube would be better, but no way you can seriously say that a good 1080p blu-ray on a quality lcd or plasma doesn't look better than a dvd on a crt.
the CRT may be technically able to display more lines, but any source that still plays on a CRT has pitiful resolution.

since it seems you were talking about CRT monitors & not tvs though, please point me to the crt monitor with > 3840x2160 resolution that you own.
