socket 754 it is outdated old technology non upgradable according to some anandtech reviews on motherboards and pc magazines too. I'd go with 939 only now.

Seems fine, although this is not a SFF setup.

buggs is right though. You're better off going with this cpu and this mb, which are socket 939. They're about the same price (will need to get a 939 heatsink instead though ) and the mb is based on the same nForce3 chipset as the DFI, although it's a MSI (Anandtech recommended mb though). I wouldn't say that 754 is dead, but it is going to become their budget line. Which probably means only Semprons for upgrade path.

EDIT: Here's a heatsink. I'm not sure (having never seen a 939 cpu up close and personal) if it's the same heatsink/fan type as the 754s or the 940s. Perhaps someone can confirm?

Wait until the Nforce4 (or whatever Nvidia decides to call it) comes out. The new 3000+, which is 90nm and is socket 939, is about the same price, but can take advantage of dual-channel memory. Also, I would go with some Corsair Value Select, or, if you want to overclock, KOMUSA.com's PC3700 HyperRAM (which is only 20$ more).

thanks alot, i cant wait much longer b/c this pc i am on right now had decided not to detect usb devices or any new hardware i add for some reason. i came to the conclusion that its b/c i dont have enough power from the power supply thats only 100 watt lol. anyways i think it is time for me to build a new pc since this is only an amd slot a athlon 800mhz geforce 2 mx200 512mb sdram and soem other cheap stuff.

btw how much more improvement am i really getting from going with 939 and athlon 64 3000 instead of 754 and same processor?

Not all that much unless you plan on upgrading to a dual core CPU and keeping your motherboard for a while. I just set up a Socket 754 3000+ system for someone and it's blazingly fast.
