New PC - XP Install Issues

So I'm almost 100% sure I have a good copy of Windows XP Pro, I havent used the CD and I have the key and sticker still intact, pretty sure no one in the family used it as well.

I currently just finished building a computer with a AMDX2 6000+ on a ECS GeForce6100SM-M

But.. now I'm running into an issue.. I have a 120GB SATA drive in the PC, and it detects it and partions and reformats it just fine.. Then when Windows XP Pro installs and I put in my computer name and key info.. it continues on to the network install and just shuts off my computer.. Doesnt reboot it but kills it..

I then decided to try my friends old Dells XP CD which was just Home Edition and it has a different order of installs, but it gets a bit farther and then just shuts off my PC.. No idea what the heck is going on..


Any idea anyone?

I dunno seems doubtful its this.. Because it happens at the exact same spot at the install every time..

Happened exact same spot in install for my friends XP disc, and exact same spot for my XP Disc.

Something is seriously wrong. Run memtest86 to see if it finds anything.

i was also reinstalling xp a few days ago... and during install my computer would just randomly just shut off as well... but mine shut off during the setup (on that blue screen) before it even let me select which partition to install it on...

It ended up being that windows couldn't recognize my SATA drive and i had to take out an old floppy from another pc and install it in mine, putting some SATA drivers on the floppy.

I really don't know what your problem is but it could be due to your SATA drive.

memtest shows my memory okay.. scans it says OK

Cant be a SATA issue since I got farther then the blue screen reformat process and into the XP installation after I reformatted.. I'm baffled!

Going to try disabling my NIC through my bios and try that since it appears to die at the network install part.
