most of that is hardly a big deal. it sure as hell doesnt take physx for most of that crap in other games. the trees sway and environments are destructible just as fine without it. do people really think that trees dont sway in Far Cry 2 just as well as in that game. do people think that Red Faction doesnt have things blow up and look just as good as that? besides the cloth stuff, its clear they gimp the normal version of the game and then only apply these effects with physx. the idiotic consumer thinks... wow I can have swaying tress now that I have physx. thank you nvidia.

Toyota this thread is only for people who support PhysX to talk about how awesome it is and how it's the wave of the future. In case you weren't aware, forums are not for discussing opinions, only for hyping and promoting Nvidia's latest product...

I'd get banned for what I really want to say here. Instead, I'd ask you to stop the spite shit and GTFO of this thread if you cannot handle or bear the fact that some people really do like, and support PhysX and that I'm in the Nvidia focus group and you think that this thread is nothing but marketing a product for Nvidia. You think you've got it all figured out, but you know NOTHING. This is BS. I ask for one thread, not the whole forum. And I get this baby spite shit. GTFO.

Well, I agree with Keys. Doesn't matter what you think about PhysX - this isn't a thread about whether it's worth it or not. This thread presents what PhysX is and what performance penalties does it have. So kindly leave your opinion on the usefulness of the whole PhysX technology out of this thread. The information that will be provided here can really give very good ground on the decision one makes when buying a GPU - do I want PhysX or not and will my card handle it?

I'd wish people would for once leave bias and fanboy'ism behind...

So, I gave up on Vista. Maybe I was messing with drivers too much. But the whole thing went buggy. I'm now using Windows 7 64 bit. 6GB DDR3. Lets see how that goes.

Hehe, even Zogrim gets some negativity and is kind enough to build a PhysX site and create these wonderful comparisons for the community; to share his passion for PhysX.

Zogrim has one hell of a dynamic eye to me!

All imho,

The key to this is to try to have comparisons on what the dynamic aspects are for each individual title and does the combined nature of dynamic aspects in each title actually raise the bar of realism and immersion?

The performance aspect are three fold:

The hit with PhysX and with-out; the performance with GPU PhysX and CPU PhysX; the performance with various configurations from Sli to different discrete GPU Physics cards.

Also some insights are -- nVidia's tool sets; to garner what kind of tools developers and artist may use to help bring PhysX to games -- tools like APEX. What kind of engines or developers may use PhysX.

One of the things that has been missing has been GPU accelerated Rigid bodies and like to see this improve or mature over time.

I could do PhysX off. But what for? I'm trying to find a minimum all around sweet spot for a dedicated PhysX GPU.

To see the performance hit caused by enabling PhysX when you don't have a dedicated PhysX GPU (or if you have one that's too weak, like the 8400 in Batman). What Qbah said pretty much sums up why I'd want to see numbers with PhysX off:

I would also like to see how much of a hit PhysX is performance-wise. For example we can run AAx8 and that usually cuts the framerates in half. We know that because we run the test with AAx0 first and then with AAx8 and compare Batman, Mirror's Edge and Cryostasis most likely have an option to disable the PhysX effects altogether - by running a test like that we will know how much performance PhysX uses. Also, any chance running Sacred 2?

My wild guess is the performance should be similar with PhysX on to running a better extra PhysX card (like a 9600GT+). Though it would be nice to have some numbers on it

edit: Here's a really neat benchmark I came across earlier:
http://www.widescreengamingfor...man-i7-295-aaphysx.jpg

That shows the performance hits caused by varying levels of AA as well as PhysX in BatmanAA. PhysX on high causes almost as much of a performance hit as 4xAA with PhysX off (this was done with an i7 + GTX295).

to share his passion for PhysX.
It's not question of passion.. I'm just collecting, analyzing and providing information - nothing more, nothing less.

From my point of view, making complete PhysX hardware guide is right direction - what single GPU is enough for PhysX ? in what games ? which dedicated GPU to buy ? how will it work with SLI ? Triple-SLI ? etc, etc
For example, I can handle all that comparison area, but I'm completely out of benchmarking and stuff.

Excuse me for not being able to help finding it the least bit odd, that in a thread titled "New PhysX Thread", discussion about "how exactly PhysX brings new levels of immersion to a game" would not be allowed. I find it quite humorous.

It would be like in CPUs & Overclocking if I made a thread called "New SSE4.1 Thread" and then requested that the positive impact of SSE4.1 on daily computing (e.g., "is this really going to help Word Processing?") not be discussed.

Such a request would not be reasonable. At the very least I think a thread re-title to something less generic (to reflect the focus of the discussion) would be in order in such a scenario. Could we have at least this? Would save other members from wandering in (like I did) thinking it was a general discussion about PhysX and weighing in.

Too bad you fail to follow the daily threads and posts here. Keys specifically stated in a thread that is now nocked down to page 2 or 3, that he would be creating a "New Physx Thread" to explore the performance of various games/settings/hardware with physx enabled.

He did not say with it off, he did not say "to see whether it's worth it" and he sure as hell didn't say "to entice trolls to come spew garbage at us about how Nvidia is the devil and physx is his pointy tail".

Only the individuals who would like to see it die away. Unless it's a biased motive, it Makes Zero Sense. Besides, "anybody" has had ample opportunity, and still do, to question or complain about PhysX in OTHER threads. Do a search, find a PhysX thread (not this one), and feel free.

Hookay, back to the good stuff. I'll be doing a lot more testing tomorrow night. Just been a little busy. Most of what I needed to do taken care of.

I'll add GTX280 as the dedicated card as well. Sticking with Win7 for the tests for now.

I really want to see a single gpu card used along with an 8600gt 256mb if possible. I have an 8600gt 256mb gddr3 in another pc and I really am debating if it would be worth the trouble to put in my gaming pc for physx with my gtx260 for the main card. although I am no big fan of physx it is in some games I have so I would like to go ahead and use it when possible.

If I am not mistaken it was offered to ATI albeit not free. ATI simply choose not to go with it.

this thread is for people who are INTERESTED in PhysX

- Whoever wants can start another thread about how crap PhysX is and i promise to let the haters there alone to revel in their ignorance
yeah because anybody that questions physx or complains about it on any level must be ignorant...

Only in this thread .. here they are pretty clueless about politeness and interacting smoothly with others in society.

i will get to testing physX weekend (hopefully) - GTX 280 and 8800 GTX combinations
- Does Cryostasis full retail game have a built-in bench - or is it the tech demo?

And is the tech demo different than the demo that starts immediately aboard the ship?
