I didn't hit a mid life crisis but the current truck was starting to show its age and limited ability. As much as I would have loved to go EV, my feeling is, for trucks, we aren't there yet.

I love a trucks utility and it gets used. I have a boat that gets pulled to various lakes and back during the summer and a utility trailer for loads to the dump or taking the tractor to service or other odd jobs. I haul stuff regularly. So, yeah, my use scenario meant a truck of some flavor.

My current truck is a 2014 chevy silverado 1500 and only has about 60000 miles. Work is not far at all and under normal circumstances I may fill a tank every 3-4 weeks. But , come the weekend, or off days and the truck is quickly loaded up to get some work done.

Unfortunately, I noticed this particularly with the boat that the current 1/2 ton is working way to hard. It can pull and it's within spec but it doesn't do it particularly well. There are several times on mountain roads you very much know there is a trailer there and the trailer is more in control.

After 7 years with the current trucknit was timento upgrade. I chose the Ram 2500 mostly for the interior and I am ok with not getting the biggest baddest gas engine on the block. (Looks at the Ford 7.3L) it was about capability and utility, I did like the idea of some cool features.

Of course, finding a truck is insane right now so I put in the order to my local dealer. 4 months of waiting....though not surprised and I have a buyer for the current one.

And there is the rendered shot!

Laramie Hemi 6.4 with 8spd transmission 4x4 and 4.1 gears.

I pretty much added all the good features. Big screen and most of the bells and whistles. It will be fun!

I tried to buy a Ram 7 years back when they came out with the diesel 1500. The local dealer couldn't crack the code on ordering it so I ended up buying an F150.
My next pickup will be an electric, unless I decide to pick up a travel trailer.

I would love to do an EV but I feel the battery tech isn't there yet for my use. Sure , around town would be fine, but pulling around the Inland NW really puts a damper on that. Good luck trying to find a suitable outlet up at Lions Head on Priest Lake, LOL! Same with Pend Orielle, I can barely find a gas station!

2500 ddr ram is sort of slow but I am sure you can over clock it to 3000 and maybe 3200.
Doesn’t matter much for an intel system but it does for a Ryzen system.
Oh wait...

Surprised you went with a gasser rather than diesel. Most people I've known with 3/4 ton pickups that towed a lot found the gas options to be very poor performers and garbage fuel economy.

The biggest reason I went with gas is the super short commute on the regular basis. I wouldn't get the diesel to temp and would be constantly running regens. I did go with the 4.1 gearing to account for that. I don't expect this thing to haul backside but it should still be capable. I am also debating a supercharge😁 if it doesn't work out.

Once you tow with a diesel you'll never use anything else. You don't even notice 10k on your hitch...it just pulls like crazy. It's totally wild.

That wasn't the case with Fords F150 diesel, the twin turbo V6 had better torque and horsepower. That's why Ford dumped the diesel.

Uh we're talking the big boys, not the engines in the 150/1500...

6.7 Cummins, 6.6 Duramax, etc.
