Oh ya! Gaming and multimedia, possibly some graphics rendering but nothing major. This is to replace the 6 year old laptop im on which takes half an hour, i kid you not, half an hour to boot up.

If you are going to overclock you might as well go with an opteron 144 or 146. They also have 1 Mb cache.

Lol, I almost went nuts when I saw that a socket-939 3000+ would run at 2.0 GHz...

Since Howard is back to his old ways, not giving anyone an opportunity to express an opinion, let me give a few links that have good info to check on.

jonnyGURU's recommendations on Fortron, Enermax and Seasonic have a large following on AT.

I would put more creedence in jonnyGURU because his data on Seasonic S-12 600W PSU, so much so, I bought one several days ago.
My intention is to give Gautama better info that have been well received by most ATers, well researched and helpful.

Why so? I know some people that have it stabley overclocked to 2.4

So how many volts psu would I need?

How exactly did I prevent you from posting your opinion?

I like how none of your links discuss the AX450-PN. I'll give you one that does:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/ratethebrands.html

Interestingly enough, what's under the YELLOW list?

All the PSUs recommended in this thread will work well. Some will last longer than others.

Just to play Devil's Advocate for a moment... You might be able to get a similarly configured Dell right now for $900-1000 with a 2007fpw included.

I looked at Dell, was around same price but with a lesser graphics card. Plus I promised myself i would never buy a dell again. (The last 2 I bought wouldn't even startup, i finally got the last one to run but airflow was HORRIBLE thing crashed like everyday)

Your remarks imply a lot.
Giving people a choice, that why we express opinions here. Many ATers have expressed Fortron 450W PSUs as a good choice. So you in your infinite reason say otherwise?

I know, otherwise I wouldn't.

He asked for help with a new rig. It does not appear he knows much about this kind of stuff, so why offer him "choices" that he has to decide from?

You know, not too long ago I used to recommend the AX450-PN, until I found out they used Fuhjyyu caps. But it's nice to know that I'm all alone *looks at link above*.

Here's something useful

Howard, all I said was this and then you come with your implication, your cute remarks and your incessant wisdom.

You start the flaming and when you get a rebuff, you try your best to be vague and superior. Why don't you state your opinion or fact and leave it at that.

No, you will always try to correct and try to prove your legend on AT. My advice is to back off as far as I'm concerned. I don't need your input on what I have to offer.

As I said before, you been around to develop a legend on AT. What I see, is that you're developing a legend in your own mind.

Here's some more vagueness for you: you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

For anybody else who's reading, this is a warning sign.

A solid power supply is important though. Never heard of a Hipro 400. Fortron is good. This link is good http://www.jonnyguru.com/ratethebrands.html . A little PSU investment will go far.

Rest sounds pretty good. I'd recommend that the LCD have DVI. Logitech MX518 might be a decent upgrade mouse-wise. Howard's component list was good, but X1800XT's can be had for a steal right now (~$219 AR) so probably worth getting.

Good call on the video card. I'd get that instead.

The Fortron AX series isn't as high quality as their other stuff.
