New roto hammer time

Blew up my Dewalt roto hammer a couple weeks back, and the Bosch back up is getting tired. Right now this is the top contender for a replacement.

Is there anything else I should be looking at? Whatever I end up with is going to be beat mercilessly, so it needs to be tough.

The Makita HR4510C is the comparable tool to the DeWalt, but it doesn't hit any harder, and doesn't appear to be anymore robust. It also costs a couple hundred bucks more.

I'll have to look into that a bit more.

I've used them for years without fail and most peeps I know do too.

This tool will drill a couple hundred holes every year and chip out a lot of concrete. All of this in a very dusty environment.

I drilled about 6 holes in my foundation a few weeks ago and was worn out. I got mad and grabbed my cheap jackhammer:

That thing has 6 or so bolts that go around the bottom that I had to tap and rethread...it's loose as heck, but I've definitely gotten my $150 out of it. I recommend owning one if you're going through a lot of concrete. It made very short work of the job I was doing after I remembered I had it in my tool shed.

Wow, that is a good deal on that DeWalt. I was going to suggest Hilti, as those are the only corded ones I've ever used. I have a cordless Milwaukee one myself. You won't be able to get anything close to that impact energy in Hilti for the DeWalt price though.

The Dewalt is a very nice tool.
Hilti generally wants a premium price for their gear, and I've never been convinced it's good enough to justify the price. I have a Hilti electric jackhammer, and while it works very well, it's not all that much better than the DeWalt thats $800 cheaper. I also have an HF jackhammer that actually works, it's slow, but it does break concrete. Though none of my men will touch it after using the Hilti.

I used a Bosch RH328VCQ for a while. It was relatively inexpensive and awesome to use, though I didn't compare it to anything equivalent.

I have a Bosch, it's getting old and tired but it works. They used to be THE name in roto hammers, but I feel DeWalt now makes a better tool for less money.

I have a Hitachi that I really like. Just used it to take up all the tile and mortar with relative ease.

The Bosch RH850VC is $729. I'll have to check it out.

I pretty much need the biggest one made, as I have to chip a lot of concrete, and drill a lot of holes.
