okay well, I'm gonna be making my new rig soon and since I'm gonna be going off to the Marines on September, i'm on a littler budget.

here it is:

- SOLTEK SL-K8AN2E-GR Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb
- AMD 64 3200 Newcastle
- 2x512mb 3200 Corsair DDR
- 80g Maxtor 72000
- 40g Maxtor 72000
- Sapphire Radeon 9800pro 12mb DDR
- Lite-ON DVD Burner

how would this compete with the new games comming out this year, and how many years would it take for this computer to be considered OLD SCHOOL and would need to build a newo ne.

DO you pln to OC? If so, you may be better off getting a 3000+ venice. Pick up a Chaintech VNF4 mobo and a PCI-e 6600gt. You would save ~$50 on the CPU (unless you found a really good deal). the motherboard is the same price as that soltek (depending on where you get it) and spend $50 more on video. Overall it is the same price and it should perform better in most games. The CPU itself will be a bit slower, but the venice cores can easily be OCed. Since it is s939 and PCI-e, you will have a little more flexibilty if you plan to upgrade in a few years.

BTW - for gaming, the graphics card is quite a bit more important than CPU (for most games). If poossible, it is better to downgrade the CPU a bit and upgrade the video.

yeah I agree go socket 939 with the 3000+ venice core and 6600 GT. I made the mistake of going 754 and New Castle and am dissapointed in it's OC ability not to mention it's not future proof at all anymore.

Yeah what those guys said....not sure about that PSU either. I would go with the sonata II for the case though.

Either one should be fine. The Ultra board has a few extra features like a harware firewall and SATA I IIRC. It can be had for aroud $92. That will raise your price a bit (~$15)... It may OC a bit better, but I have no idea...
