I have recently come acros guite a bit of money for christmas. I am going to use it to build a kick-ass SLI system. I will have about $1750 for a new MB, CPU, memory, and 2 Videocards. I am looking for 2 6800GTs but I cant find any. Any suggestions on what to buy? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

If you already have a 3400+ and a 6800 GT, there's not really anything you need to upgrade. Save that money for later.

it doesnt work well. ive been having glitches and crashes under the most basic tasks. i've tried every thing to make it work better too. i cant seem to isolate the problem. ive tried the componets in other systems too, and they work fine. plus, I always have to be on the cutting edge of technology.

I agree unless you are a benchmark whore. That setup is more than enough for now. Are you sure your oc is stable?

Try and fix whatever problems you're having at the moment--throwing down $1700 on impulse because of that is absurd, at least to me (maybe because I would never be able to do something like that at 14).

Make sure the PSU is quality and it's working--if it doesn't fulfill both of these, a new power supply is all you need. Put the other $1600 away for when we find out if SLI is actually worth it in the long run or not.

Start, of course, by backing down to stock speeds on your CPU. Make sure the PSU is quality and it's working--if it doesn't fulfill both of these, a new power supply is all you need. Put the other $1600 away for when we find out if SLI is actually worth it in the long run or not.

I've tried everything. I have tried every version of every driver I've seen and thing work in other systems too. I just seem to have compatibility issues whith my current setup.

I'm not sure either... try taking things out and boot with the bare essentials, then gradually add things. Maybe even reformat for the hell of it--I don't know why this came to mind, because this is probably a more hardware-related issue.

Then if you really want to build, at least sell the old system.
You could get alot of cash for that.

EDIT: Also try a little more to get that system working. (i.e. trouble shoot here on the forums)

If you cant figure out how to get that simple system running that what makes you think you can handle setting up an SLI system? Get your system working the way it should and if your not satisfied with it then go with the SLI

That setup should chew threw any current games no problem. Can you be more specific as to what the issues are that are causing the problems? It seems to me like you really want to dump off your current rig. I am sure if you put in the FS/FT you can get some good money for it. I would say good luck in trying to get your hands on a SLI setup especially 2 PCI-e 6800GT's or Ultras.

then your problem is not spending more money on a "bit better" system - because even with the ultra super high-end system you will only be MARGINAL better than what you have right now.

Your problem is rather your current setup/stabilty...and, its also very likely IN CASE you waste another $1700 for a new system you will have the same problems. THEN, if you really wanna totally waste your money and want to have stability and less hassle i recommend a pre-built system. Your system itself is top-notch.

YAY And THIS system of course will have NO FLAWS at all.... btw..wanna go over to the motherboards forum and read how many people have problem running their SLI systems with the A8N ?

99,9% chance your new system will NOT be perfect. If you really have problems setting up/configuring your sys (and here you have to be honest to yourself and judge your knowledge) then rather get something pre-built. (See other reply). You probably assume that just by spending another (useless) $1700 on a "new" system will solve your problems - this MAY be - but could also very well only be an assumption.
