New Temps?

hi. i used to use a generic 350 watt psu with 2 fans, one 80mm on the bottom sucking air out of the case, and a 80 on the rear to remove the air from the case. my idle/load temps were 33 to about 47.

Im using a Thermalright XP90 HSF w/ Ceramique on the CPU, and so this has kept my temps fairly low. Just yesterday i installed a new PSU, an OCZ Powerstream 470, with a fan at both ends of the PSU but not one at the bottom sucking in any air. i have a coolermaster praetorian case and so there is a fan on the top which is also extracting air.

Anyhow, my idle temps now are like 40 flat. 7 degrees higher?? my load temps have soared up and im really unsure why. just now while playing CS Source my computer just randomly restarted, checking temps in bios it said 53 and this is the highest ive ever seen. with this heatsink it shouldent be anywhere near there, so im not really sure what to do.

My proc is a 3200 running 1.55 vcore @ 2.46 Ghz and has been running this speed for a long time, and i know it is stable, with superpi, memtest (5000% check), and prime 95 for 24 hours. all passed without errors.

Im not sure how clear this is to you guys but if theres anything you need to ask/know more about please reply. Thanks in advance.

First thing I'd do is double check that the heatsink is seated properly.

You might want to throw your old PSU back into your and see if the results were reproducible.

If you are getting low temps again whe you put your old PSU back in, then there is something with the new OCZ PSU that is preventing your case from venting properly.

bump. anyone else. this is really bugging me. ive tried reversing the direction of flow of 2 case fans, cleaning up the wiring, and also changing the direction the cpu fan blows. very low flow from PSU.

all fans are operational. i have a 80mm UV sensitive coolermaster spinning at ~1800 rpm. i used to have a 90 mm sunon spinning at 3000 rpm and even when dropped back to 65% speed had no effect on temps so i changed to the smaller coolermaster fan. the difference in psu is now that aside from the fan at the back, the second fan is now located right next to the blowhole on top of my case, instead of on the bottom of the psu. the new psu is also giving me substantial cable clutter near these 2 fans (psu, blowhole)

temps are 40/42 with the case cover on. and if i take it off to allow cool room air to go in... temps dont drop below 40. what the hell could it be? bad hsf contact? it cant be coz i can feel heat being transferred to the hs so it must be making good contact. yet why does it stay at such freaking high temps. im sorry im just getting really annoyed.

Is it too late to return the PSU? You might want to consider a PSU with one 120mm fan. Those vent a lot better and are quieter to boot.

I suspect it's just the motherboard sensor got reset when you changed the PSU, and now it boots with a different offset. My motherboard's offset changes on every boot.

but ive never felt heat on the hs, yet now i can. the temps are for real and its caused cs source to crash - never before has this happened at these settings. ive even tried blowing a huge fan into the case but the temps STILL stay at 40. what the heck could be up? ive reapplied the HSF properly with AS Ceramique. the one thing i havent done, is tried my old psu again. but that would be hell, to have to replug all the cables in.

ok heres a further update. i have put my old psu back in and the temps are STILL high. now what the hell could be up? Theres a real twist for you! sigh. forcing huge amounts of air via a outside fan wont lower my temps, so why is my proc tripping out? seriously weird.
