New unofficial SBLive! Drivers (WDM)

It seems I missed these...they appeared a few weeks ago.

5.12.1.3110 Dated 8/1/2000

These are for win2k and winme. I'm using these on win2k, and the irritating pause while booting to the desktop appears to be gone. Everything seems okay at the moment.

Creative's support is boring at the best, nice to have one to try out.

BTW, does it eliminate the random clicking sounds completely while playing MP3 in w2k?

I've found those random clicks you're hearing were caused by not using ACPI under Windows 2000. If ACPI was enabled in BIOS and you used a non ACPI HAL (Standard PC), the clicking was real bad. With it enabled and an ACPI HAL the clicking is absent.

2 questions:

1)what the hell does "WDM" stand for. The last beta drivers from Aureal were labeled as "WDM" too.

2)Do these work with the 5.1 versions of the Live? I ask this because all of the drivers for win2k on creative's site say "not for use with 5.1 series of live cards".

I've already enabled ACPI in BIOS and using ACPI HAL w2k but sometimes the annoying sounds still occurs. I could eliminate it by disable &quot;delayed transaction&quot; in BIOS but it cause a small (very small actually) performance hit. But it never happens in w9x even with delayed transaction enabled.

Good question. I was trying to figure out the same thing. As of now, there are no drivers on Creatives website/s for the 5.1 version of sblive. The only drivers available for the 5.1 versions are on the install cd that came with the card. I too would like to know if anyone has tried these on there 5.1. I'm not gonna try it. Who's gonna be the guinnea pig? Good luck.

I wasn't sure if that pause was just me or if it happens to other as well. I'm glad to know it's not just me. Hopefully someone will confirm that these drivers work with the 5.1s.

Any news if these drivers will work with the SB Live! 5.1 cards?

Did they fix the problem with SMP computers and DirectX? I have a dual processor system and I get major problems if I have DX set to use full acceleration on the sound card.

I get clicking/popping in my MP3s as well, even with ACPI enabled.

update: Apparently the drivers that come with the SB Live! 5.1 are version 5.12.1.3204 which would make them newer than those Gateway OEM drivers.
