We have poor wifi coverage and speed in our house with a time capsule and three cat5 ethernet wired Airport xpress hubs with the capsule / router etc in the basement.
I want to consider a mesh system and phase out the airport system. Should I use the ethernet cables for the nodes or just go totally wireless? Should I use one of the Ethernet cables to bring the primary node out of the basement in an attempt to improve the internet spreed and decrease the internet dead zones.
We will still need wifi in the basement so I would have to put a secondary node there. House is old but renovated so former outside walls are inside which may be part of the issue.
I appreciate your input/advice
Thanks so much,
JT

Wired Access Points work much better than Pure Wireless.

Since you have already wires you probably are better of replacing "Airports Turtles" with what Good Access Points.

You already have 3 AP and you have bad signal? You might need to consider your wall construction and where your APs are right now. Most houses should have pretty dang good signal with that many AP.

If you purchase a mesh system with the capability of a wired backhaul then use it. As for moving the primary node, I don't think which one is primary matters. You said you want coverage in your basement you'll probably want one down there anyway. With the wired backhaul all your nodes should provide the same throughput..at least as perceivable for your average surfing and gaming.
