New Years Kegs?

Do you guys think liquor stores will sell out of kegs n the like early on? Or do you think buying the keg on new years eve would be possible? I just don't want my friends to pick one up a day early and have it skunked, but I don't want to go to the store on new years eve afternoon and have them say "sorry, no kegs except for corona" (can't afford that )

Can't you just order it, and pick it up later? That's how it works for me. Call early on in the week, tell them what you want pick it up Thursday nite and return on Monday.

Put it in a tub, pour in ice around it, pour in some salt, and a little water...

I've found when the water melts around the keg, it gets freezing cold... Plus you have somewhere to pour head if you're getting it off the tapper...

Not sure why you suggest putting water in it, but ditto. Just make sure you don't only have one tub in your house, and then won't be able to take a shower for the next couple of days.

Definitely go the tub route, though. Set your keg in the middle, and completely fill the tub with ice. Don't skimp. You'll spend about $10-$15 on ice alone. Once you have that set up, invite others to put their beer/liquor to stick into the ice as well. Works better than a fridge, as it's readily accessible.

Just a note, if you do only have one bathroom, be warned that people will be pissed at not being able to get to the beer if someone is going #2.

I got one last year on new years eve at about 10pm. It is however a college town so the place i got it from keeps a rather large amount in stock.

they are a drive thru beer place that will reserve kegs for you at a great price.
just drive your car thru the place and they will load up your car for you.

That place does look sweet!! :Q They got Rolling Rock kegs for $50 too, not bad at all! Except hoboken is a drive :\

It'll be at a friends house. But I'm suppling the beer. One keg each: Bitter, Chocolate Porter, Wheat, and two kegs IPA.

Call and reserve one today. Pick it up first thing in the morning and get it covered in ice completely until you tap it.

beer in a keg will keep just fine, even if you let it get warm. the only things that can ruin beer are:

1) exposure to oxygen (oxidation creates cardboard flavors)
2) exposure to excessive light (light can make a beer taste 'skunky'; e.g., corona)
3) exposure to microbes

That's what I figured. As long as it doesn't get tapped by some drunkard before the night of we should be alright.
