Sinatra sang that song.
listen here
Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps
And find I'm A-number-one, top of the list, king of the hill, A-number-one
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'm gonna' make a brand new start of it
In old New York
And if I can make it there
I'm gonna' make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.

Having been to both NYC and Chicago, I have to give the nod to NYC in terms of beautiful women. It seems like three quarters of the Chicago population are obese. I've never seen so many overweight people in my life. And what's with the Popeye's Chicken restaurants on practically every block in Chicago? No wonder they're such lardasses.
Ha. I've lived in Manhattan my entire life but am now at college in Chicago (Northwestern). NYC is 10x better than Chicago. I miss it there so much. And you are 100% of correct, nothing beats the women of NY.
As for inflated prices on groceries, you just need to know where to shop.
And Central Park is truly the most amazing thing. I love walking through there during the spring/fall and rollerblading during the summer. The winter time, if it's not too cold, it is so great just to play in the snow and act 12 (except take your gf to offset the 12 part )
Considering Papaya King has been around for about 40 years longer than Gray's, I'd call Gray's the pretender to the throne. The founder was even a former Papaya King employee!Originally posted by: Legendary
Also for the above poster, the three Gray's Papayas are not related to Papaya King, which I consider to be an evil hellspawn bent on using the term "Papaya" to gain market share. But hey, that's just my biased opinion.

Besides that, they get their dogs and buns from the same Sabrett distributer, so there's no real difference except for preparation and toppings. I prefer PK's crispier (cooked longer perhaps) dogs and toasted buns, plus they offer a ton more toppings (slaw dogs rule).
When it comes to the fruit drinks, there is NO competition. Papaya King by a mile. Gray's are chalky and watered down.
That said, I won't pass up a Gray's dog or two from the 8th Ave location when I'm in a rush to or from the office...or only have the change in my pocket to by lunch with.

Well, for one thing, the people in Toronto are genuinely nicer (and aren't pushy, asking "what makes you think THAT?" every second ) - and they don't need some silly structure to prove that they're better - in another words, they don't have the need to compensate for something. :thumbsup:Originally posted by: moshquerade

(most multicultural diverse city in the world...easiest place to blend in if you're on the run )
They both suck compared to Chicago, though.
Anyhoo, Toronto is definitely much, much cleaner than NYC. That's a HUGE plus.
Yeah, but I think what moshquerade is trying to say, is that the cleanliness, the lack of crime, that's not what you go to NYC for. You go for the hustle and the bustle, central park, museums, hotdog stands, restaurants, vibrant all night night-life etc.....And you can't really get this jumbled concoction anywhere else. That's why it thrills people so much and why people love it.
toronto > nyc? you sir need to put down the crack pipe. NYC's accomplishments, international prestige, and influence put it in a class in which toronto isn't even allowed to participate. the thrill of NYC is that it is multidimensional. you can live there your entire life and do something new every day. clean streets doesn't make toronto better than nyc, it only makes it cleaner. nicer people doesn't make toronto better than nyc, it just makes it friendly. the grandeur of nyc cannot be encapsulated in simple little categories such as cleanliness. compare it all you want on paper, but you won't know until you're there.
i only hope that one day i will be able to move back.
here's to new york, the greatest city in the world.

um, i'd take toronto any day over new york city.

i have lived in nyc for all my life, approxiametely 16 years. but when you live here as long as i have, you start to wonder how life is out of the box, you can say. i've traveled only as far as conneticut in recent times and i went to hong kong when i was very little. I still very much want to explore the nation and the world. let's reserved that when i get older and earn the cash though.
nyc is a great place to live. i live in the lower east side but uptown is the holy grail of the city. there are a few things to do downtown like seaport but after 9/11, lower manhattan has really gone south. i hope that changes as soon as the freedom tower gets built though. when you go uptown, there are so many places to vist, things to do, and locations to explore. central park is the nature of the city. the park is beautiful i say because you find things you normally wouldn't find in a urban place like nyc. oh and let's not forget times square, the location of the ball drop every new year's. millions line the streets every year to watch the ball drop. how about the christmas tree lighting at rockefeller center. what about mtv's show trl for us young teenagers. i've never seen a show attract as many stars as mtv's show trl. and where is their headquarters? in manhattan.
nyc is also a great place to shop and spend your cash like a mad man. fifth avenue has all the designer shops a woman would ever want. versace, gucci, cartier. lets not forget bloomingdales or bergdorf goodman either. oh and all this time and no mention of macy's? come on guys, its the largest store in the world. in case you haven't been there, let me tell you the store is HUGE.
nyc is a wonderful place. you should come visit.

On the same vein, living in NYC is infinitely different from visiting it to get wasted/sightsee/whatever. As a current NYC resident (sophomore in college) and former NYC suburbanite, I can see the effects that it's taking on myself and my friends. Many of my friends, who were so enchanted with living in NYC just last year (their first) are now slowly losing the gusto they had behind it. It takes a certain kind of person to live in NY and enjoy it - a certain type of personality I think.
Anyway the entire argument of this thread is entirely based on varying perspectives. Some people appreciate cleanliness more than nightlife - some people appreciate diversity more than tourist destinations - things like that.

NYC and Chicago are both great, but different. I don't think you could call either the best. Here's why:
NYC is like the hot blond girl at the bar. Sure, she's attractive and you'd love to bag her. She has all the "assets". Great layout, flashy clothes, jewelry, makeup, spontaneous and wild. But she's high maintenance, doesn't clean up well, and gets more use than a Syringer spider joke.
Chicago is the cute next-door neighbor type. She's fun, well-maintained, and beautiful in her own way. You won't make a jaw-dropping statement with her on your arm, but you'll be happy the rest of your life.
It's all in which one you choose.
