NYC won't be hit by terrorists again, but Toronto hasn't been put to that test.

Explain? What test? You think if any other major metropolitan city was hit, they'd just sit on their ass and cry?
Toronto hasn't been hit - therefore they haven't been tested to see how well they are prepared to stop the attack or to deal with it.

I have to agree, Toronto is better than NYC.
They both suck compared to Chicago, though.
what makes Toronto better than NYC, the skydome?
Well, for one thing, the people in Toronto are genuinely nicer (and aren't pushy, asking "what makes you think THAT?" every second ) - and they don't need some silly structure to prove that they're better - in another words, they don't have the need to compensate for something.

Anyhoo, Toronto is definitely much, much cleaner than NYC. That's a HUGE plus.

Yeah, but I think what moshquerade is trying to say, is that the cleanliness, the lack of crime, that's not what you go to NYC for. You go for the hustle and the bustle, central park, museums, hotdog stands, restaurants, vibrant all night night-life etc.....And you can't really get this jumbled concoction anywhere else. That's why it thrills people so much and why people love it.

i even got to check out the naked cowboy - a true NYC icon.

I saw the Naked friggin? Cowboy during the winter once.
It was freezing cold out but there he was getting his picture taken.

heh. try being a Yankee fan in Toronto. they weren't very "nice" to me.
Well, if you're a Yankee fan, you deserve what's coming.
yeh, all i had was a navy t-shirt with the NY Yankee insigna on it and i got razzed by peeps all over.
i wonder if i had a BlueJays shirt on in NYC if the same would happen.

Well, and I'm not trying to belittle all the loss of the twin towers, mind you, but NYC wasn't exactly prepared to "stop the attack", did they?

I seriously can't believe that you're thinking no other city would react in the same exact manner if such a thing happened.

People would react and gather all their resources to help if the Sears Tower was hit in Chicago
People would react and gather all their resources to help if the Eiffel Tower was hit in Paris
People would react and gather all their resources to help if the San Francisco Bridge was hit in San Francisco
People would react and gather all their resources to watch and laugh if Hollywood was hit in Hollywood (well, maybe not, but you get the idea)

Nothing would happen if you wore a Blue Jays shirt in NYC. Now if you wore a Red Sox jersey you may get a comment or two..maybe. I lived in NYC my entire life and when I got occasional jabs from god damn yankee fans when I wear my Mets gear. Fack them I say!

As for the Naked Cowboy..he makes plenty of money. Thats why he does it even during the winter. I remember something on tv about him and he said he makes plenty from tourists.

i wasn't even going there. you are making what i said out to be more than what i meant it to be.
i am just saying NYC is more prepared now than they were. other cities have yet to go through what they have.

I had never seen a Cockroach or a Rat before in my entire life until I visited NYC my first time a couple years back. I was sitting on the bench waiting for the Subway when I saw a rat chase a roach.

I saw a rat the size of a small cat in Chinatown.
It was running down the middle of the street!
That is, it was running, until a taxi crushed it.

I've seen a huge rat chase a person in a subway...those things are like bears in some parts of NYC. We also have industrial size roaches..that fly.

exactly.

toronto > nyc? you sir need to put down the crack pipe. NYC's accomplishments, international prestige, and influence put it in a class in which toronto isn't even allowed to participate. the thrill of NYC is that it is multidimensional. you can live there your entire life and do something new every day. clean streets doesn't make toronto better than nyc, it only makes it cleaner. nicer people doesn't make toronto better than nyc, it just makes it friendly. the grandeur of nyc cannot be encapsulated in simple little categories such as cleanliness. compare it all you want on paper, but you won't know until you're there.

i only hope that one day i will be able to move back.

here's to new york, the greatest city in the world.

By that logic, accomplishments don't make NYC better than Toronto, it's just more accomplished
international prestiege doesn't make NYC better than Toronto, it's just more recognized internationally
influence doesn't make NYC better than Toronto, it just has more influence.

By my standards (since the word "better" is so very objective  ), Toronto is better. And NYC may be better than Toronto by *your* standards, it's still filthy.

you sir, have missed my point. although you claimed toronto was better because it was cleaner and friendlier, i never claimed that nyc was better because of its accomplishments and prestige. i was merely pointing out these facts. my point, in case you can't read is [quoted from above, underlined, and bold-faced for empasis]:
the grandeur of nyc cannot be encapsulated in simple little categories

This conversation would be so much better if everyone could avoid superlatives. There are so many interesting places to see for various reasons. NYC is pretty damn cool, but I'm partial to Amsterdam. Maybe New York needs more canals...
