Yeah, I saw those submission blue prints and sketches when they were deciding, they were all pretty brilliant.

I'm gonna have to disagree. They had an awesome project from United Architects, but passed on it in favor of the "america is great" theme park. libeskind lost mucho points for that joke of a building IMO. The people of new york deserve alot better.

By that logic, accomplishments don't make NYC better than Toronto, it's just more accomplished
international prestiege doesn't make NYC better than Toronto, it's just more recognized internationally
influence doesn't make NYC better than Toronto, it just has more influence.

By my standards (since the word "better" is so very objective :roll: ), Toronto is better. And NYC may be better than Toronto by *your* standards, it's still filthy.

Well, for one thing, the people in Toronto are genuinely nicer (and aren't pushy, asking "what makes you think THAT?" every second ) - and they don't need some silly structure to prove that they're better - in another words, they don't have the need to compensate for something. :thumbsup:

Anyhoo, Toronto is definitely much, much cleaner than NYC. That's a HUGE plus.

Yeah, but I think what moshquerade is trying to say, is that the cleanliness, the lack of crime, that's not what you go to NYC for. You go for the hustle and the bustle, central park, museums, hotdog stands, restaurants, vibrant all night night-life etc.....And you can't really get this jumbled concoction anywhere else. That's why it thrills people so much and why people love it.

NYC's accomplishments, international prestige, and influence put it in a class in which toronto isn't even allowed to participate. the thrill of NYC is that it is multidimensional. you can live there your entire life and do something new every day. clean streets doesn't make toronto better than nyc, it only makes it cleaner. nicer people doesn't make toronto better than nyc, it just makes it friendly. the grandeur of nyc cannot be encapsulated in simple little categories such as cleanliness. compare it all you want on paper, but you won't know until you're there.

Yea.. I work near one and only ate there a few times. I don't think they are that great but for $2.75 I doubt you'll find a better deal in ripoff city that is Manhattan. I could've sworn there was a "Papaya King" somewhere around there too. Are they related??

i live and work in queens and except for going to work in manhattan once every 10 days, i haven't been there for pleasure in a while. it seems the wife and i spend more time in long island or brooklyn lately.

Don't get me wrong, I like NY to visit but I'll never go back there to live.

On the same vein, living in NYC is infinitely different from visiting it to get wasted/sightsee/whatever. As a current NYC resident (sophomore in college) and former NYC suburbanite, I can see the effects that it's taking on myself and my friends. Many of my friends, who were so enchanted with living in NYC just last year (their first) are now slowly losing the gusto they had behind it. It takes a certain kind of person to live in NY and enjoy it - a certain type of personality I think.
Anyway the entire argument of this thread is entirely based on varying perspectives. Some people appreciate cleanliness more than nightlife - some people appreciate diversity more than tourist destinations - things like that.

Also for the above poster, the three Gray's Papayas are not related to Papaya King, which I consider to be an evil hellspawn bent on using the term "Papaya" to gain market share. But hey, that's just my biased opinion.

and as a visitor to both cities my opinion is NYC>San Diego
