Rubios on the Road Have Drawn Unwanted Attention
http://www.nytimes.com/politics/fir...ife-cited-17-times-for-traffic-infractions-2/

Rubio was broke after he graduated college and had 4 traffic tickets in 17 years! This is horrible news! The NYT has become a joke which is really a shame and disservice to some great journalists that work there. Media bias? Say it isn't so!

Jon Stewart says it best...enjoy.

The first article contains a lengthy list of highly questionable financial decisions by Rubio. Collectively they would give me pause at electing him President (not that I would be inclined to vote for him anyway), because they seem to reflect a lack of judgment and care. I agree that the second piece (which is just a blog entry) about the speeding tickets is banal and silly, however.

Common, you know already, there is no media bias. Only fox news is biased, all the others are completely neutral in their reporting. I'm looking forward to NYT's expose on Hillary's parking tickets 15 ago!

Do any conservatives, besides politics wonks of course, actually read the NYT? I'm guessing the proportion is pretty tiny. NYT readers are probably mostly white, affluent and liberal. That means that they're just pandering to their base like any good marketer would do.

Jon Stewart is really starting to get tedious in his old age. I've watched the show for years, you know, when it used to be funny. It still has it's moments but Jon seems to want to do something "meaningful" now that he's on his way out - but it's just not working. I don't mind someone preaching at me as long as they're amusing in the process of doing it. Colbert was the master of this and John Oliver is his spiritual successor. Stewart is just boring.

Yes, the first article includes shit like accidently paying for the stone work at his house with the Republican Party's credit card. Employing family members in the campaign, and other stuff that probably more blunder than sinister, but are we supposed to pretend that a presidential candidate is not going to be subjected to this kind of criticism?

Yes or no question:

Would you vote for Hillary?

Do you have a thread planned on all the unflattering articles the NYT has had on Hillary as evidence of media bias? Of course not, that would be information you don't want to hear. Also, Jon Stewart doesn't think the media is liberally biased, instead being biased towards sensationalism. I'm sure you'll happily take his criticisms of the NYT as being correct, while ignoring his larger take on the media though.

Regardless, articles like this are mostly stupid. The federal budget is nothing like a household budget. The only newsworthy part of it is how he used his PAC to employ his family and how he may have run up some shady expenses on the PAC's dime. Everything else is silliness.

If you read the NYT you would know that they have had a number of similarly silly articles about her. The most recent one where they attacked Hillary for pursuing a presidential campaign strategy that didn't include all 50 states was particularly stupid.

But hey, only articles that go after Republicans count as evidence for media bias or something.

Anything so incredibly trite as 4 traffic tickets in 17 years? You should listen to the Jon Stewart piece if you haven't already...it's hilarious!

Is that the last time she mucked around with the little people and drove herself?

I'd mention Obama's parking tickets but he's a member of a protected class so I won't.

That's a blog post. If you're counting blog posts then absolutely!

Reference: Basically everything Maureen Dowd has ever written about Hillary.
Then you didn't read the front page article on the shear magnitude of his financial irresponsibility. He paid off $100,000 in student loans! He lives in a house he bought in 2005 with “an in-ground pool, a handsome brick driveway, meticulously manicured shrubs and oversize windows.” Oversized I tell you! And then, as if that isn't damning enough, he leased a car and bought a fishing boat too ffs! Yellow journalism at it's worst imo.

Eskimo, how dare you try to give Pokerguy knowledge! What are you trying to do, kill him? You know facts and knowledge are something he's deathly allergic to.

The article on Hillary not campaigning in all 50 states was on the front page too. What's your point?

It's silly journalism, but the selective outrage is silly too.

He had student loans? Fvck that. I want my politicians rich and born with a silver spoon just like I want to be some day.

The speeding tickets thing is quite funny. Honestly he looks as clean as a damn whistle so far.

False equivalency.

Please show me something even remotely equivalent to the loaded wording in the NYT hit piece on Rubio.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/07/u...ton-traces-friendly-path-troubling-party.html

No problem at all!

That’s not good for the country,” Mr. Manchin said, adding that he hoped Mrs. Clinton would “come to the middle” if she became president.

Of her campaign, he said, “If they get her too far over, it’s going to be more difficult to govern, it truly is.”

Other rural-state Democrats are sending not-so-subtle messages.

“I think that we always appreciate when people want to kind of talk to the whole country and listen to concerns, and I think farm country is critically important,” said Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Democrat of North Dakota.

A larger risk of a tailored strategy is that by taking advantage of polarization, a candidate could lose some of the authority that comes from the civic exercise of appealing to much of the nation.

They are saying that her following the strategy that basically everyone knows both nominees will follow (because it's the only way to win) is not just wrong, but is actively harming the United States.

From a presidential election perspective that's FAR worse of a hit piece than saying Rubio is bad with money.

it's that season again.

reminds me of 2008, when they insinuated that John McCain was having an affair with a lobbyist.

A Washington lobbyist filed a $27 million defamation lawsuit against the New York Times yesterday, accusing the newspaper of falsely intimating that she had a romantic relationship with Sen. John McCain and used it to benefit her clients.

The lawsuit by Vicki L. Iseman, filed in U.S. District Court in Richmond, focuses on a 3,000-word article the paper published Feb. 21 as the senator from Arizona was leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The suit blasts the paper for publishing what it called "gossip and innuendo."

These same moves (low saving rate, taking on too much debt, spending on unnecessary luxury items, not saving enough for retirement) seem to be very typical for most Americans, sadly. Rubio's certainly one of us!
